Surely any grounds for postponement can only be reviewed on actual players missing due to covid. They have 1 covid case as of now. Absolutely in my view it unsporting behaviour to hide behind covid when it not the main reason players are missing. Just as Liverpool did last week surprise surprise nothing said about it.
And Leicester the week before.

Yet we had to play when we had no attacking players during the first wave of Covid.

Looking at the Arsenal line up last night I still wouldn’t be confident of beating them.

Arteta making all the noises now. They have 11 out. It’s bollocks, since when was afcon and injuries grounds for suspension. 1 solitary Covid case should not allow them to call a game off regardless,

Let's get this out off the way, play and let go and batter them.
I agree with this-play it-beat them and move on. Although, big but!-if Dier must return, not thats he's the team just balances us up.

That doesn't really answer my question (I don't think).

It's not a case of Xhaka "not counting" because he's suspended. The question isn't how many aren't available, it's how many are. He's not available and the reason why would seem to be irrelevant.

Taking it to the extreme, if Arsenal had loads of players serving a suspension and couldn't field a team (with no COVID), then what? Is it a Boro situation where they get points deducted?

It seems like 'the board considers' those rules before making a decision.

So it's not really clearly defined, but instead subjective based on the board's assessment.

So the board basically has the flexibility to do whatever it wants, although they'll explain their decision based on those guidelines.

That's how I see it...could be wrong of course.

Can't wait for them to move the game because of "sporting" reasons. AKA they don't think it would be fair and would like both teams to be at full strength for better ratings or some shit

Sorry @Rob, what I meant is Xhaka counts as “available” because he isn’t injured, ill or away on international duty.

They can’t use him as justification for postponing the game, it’s his own fault that he’s suspended.

So they knew full well they had 2 CM going to AFCON and then they go loaning players out trying to get through January with just Xhaka CM. Only themselves to blame. Again you’ve got to think of the fans who have made arrangements to go to the game, can’t imagine they’d appreciate a midweek reschedule.

It’s going to be a really low quality game. Scrappy, misplaced passes all over. We have to win by hook or crook.

A bad performance and a loss and the crowd are really going to get toxic on Sunday. Not at Conte but because so far no signings, we can’t keep getting beat by London rivals after Wednesday, losing to Chelsea and arsenal at home in the space of a few days, and it will be a massive blow to top 4.

That's the crucial thing. Only one covid case...which is clearly taking advantage of the rules.

We should challenge it immediately. In fact we should be making that point to the PL now.

I don't think we're playing well - if we delay it, not the end of the world. I'd hope we'd have better settled into a style, possibly having included new players, later on

I don't have a good feeling about the weekend - they're a good side IMO

Arsenal looks very good, even with 10 men.

We need to be bang on it.
yeah but they've also had to play an hour with 10 3 days before playing us with not many more players than those 10 available. They will be knackered. I hope the league don't allow them to postpone as red cards are their own fault.

Wouldnt shed a tear if arse get them game called off.
Gives son , Romero and dier a chance back and hopefully at least one new player
We'd get destroyed with tanganga in defense regardless of all their missing players , or worse yet Doherty at lb
well first of all dier and romero were both training before chelsea but just werent risked. Sessegnon was on the bench. People are reading far too much into the chelsea games where we played with 4 of the back 5 in different positions to what they played in the league all out of position and with space cadet sanchez as the central organiser when he barely knows where he is most of the time. DIer back in and sess or reg on the left and we will be fine again. Liverpool press harder than anyone and we were fine against them at home. Bring them on while they are weak.

Could be wrong here but im 99% sure that yellow and red cards in this competition do not count towards premier league games and vice versa. I think they changed the rule a few years ago to stop the cheating clubs taking advantage of using this competition as a way of getting their suspensions out of the way.

I also seem to recall on Wednesday the commentator saying that if Sarr from Chelsea had picked up a yellow card tonight then he'd be out of the final which implies that there must be some kind of ruling just for the Caraboa cup.

**Edit - I was wrong although kinda right

Yellow cards dont count but red cards do, therefore meaning Xhaka is actually now suspended for our game.
