It's because every time he gets the ball, it goes backwards and inside. He needs to go foward and outside his man a bit more. Not sure what we can do about that, though. Bring Veliz on, and shift Son out to the left?
To be fair, we've looked great going forward, could have had 5 or 6. No need to change it. Just struggling with set pieces with no centre backs, which isn't a great surprise.

well we can't complain about boring footall today. What a game. Thought we did really well and dominated. A good goal from them can't really blame anyone. We should have this if we carry on the same in the secon half

Now that cash is booked and done another foul. 1 more and he should be off. I'd get Johnson to run at him

no chance he comes back out. Emery must know he’s a red waiting to happen, even with 15 free chances

Gil’s played well, or are we doing the thing where one mistake means you’re shite and should never play again?
It wasn’t even near as bad a mistake as Poro’s. Considering he’s still lacking match sharpness he’s been very good down the left side.

Why does it seem we're battling against some kind of, I don't know, just 'something'?

Every match lately seems to be the same. Bossing games, playing really positive football, creating loads of chances, and then, 'something' happens. If it's not in inexplicably bad challenge by one of our players, it's one by theirs causing an injury, or just a random hamstring, or a goal from the oppo's only shot.

It's frustrating as fuck, because I've absolutely loved what we're doing.

I’m lost for words. Cash should be off. Johnson needs to swap positions with Gil and I just can’t believe it’s 1-1

Great performance and super entertaining half. Not good enough finishing or awareness in the final third though.

Playing 4 full backs in defence was always going to be a problem for set pieces and the reality is that we should have already put the game to bed before they scored, but now that will likely cost us.

Bentancur was running it before they deliberately took him out. How have they got away with it too? I fear we are less good with Hojberg as the holding DM.

I see similarities with the Chelsea game. We destroy them with better football so they rough us up a bit, make the game more scrappy, get away with it in terms of consequences, and we get the bad side of consequences. Then the game turns... I only hope we can turn it on and convert the chances again in the second half.

Johnson has been totally anonymous aside from that one offside run/cross. Needs to get involved more.

Kulu has played well but should have scored that early chance.

Very wasteful up front. And think that Dier would have been more use instead of Davies when it comes to defending crosses, we're a very small side today.

We keep dropping off mentally when we take the lead. Must be driving Ange mad.

Make shift CBs, make shift midfield and not the usual wingers either side of Son. That was pretty good Villa goal aside. Been all over them. Keep that up and we win.
I really enjoyed that first half bar the last ten minutes. Should’ve been 2 or 3 up, some of the football was superb

Biggest takeaway from this is how much dirtier Villa are than I thought.

Absolutely devastated for Bentancur if he's out for a while again. All at the hands of that nasty little scrote, Cash. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he went into it thinking he could do some damage.

No idea how this is going to go, I'm much less confident with PEH in place of Bentancur.

Considering everything we've played some stunning football. Our vulnerabilities are due to injuries. The medium and long term look really exciting.

When we do play this "to dare is to do " footbal, we need to score 4 during that first half, i am afraid Villa will get 2-3 more. We are horrible at the back, and as we tire in the seccond half the pressure on the ball will go down and Watkins will have a breeze on the crosses against Davies and Co.

What’s he done wrong?

He’s no Bentancur but I’ve felt he’s done fine since he’s come on.

Our issue has been defending set pieces and not having finished more of our many chances to kill the game.
He's done little wrong, but his position is not what the set up requires. The gaps in front are widening from the midfield as he's always closer to the CBs that his other two midfield partners. He thinks by retreating the first time the ball comes to him he's helping in recycling, when he has the ability to break the line forward but he seldom does so. We are so effective when he's not playing because Biss and Bentancur are superb in doing that. Now we will constantly be pinned back. Is no coincident the play became so backward when he played against Wolves and the moment he's on. He could have just take the attacking approach, really, and we will be fine. Until that happens, we need more moments of magic to score now.

Whatever. Not playing your only recognised central defender is incomprehensible and inexcusable. For all his tactical nous, Ange is costing us points two weeks in a row. We were lucky with the Watkins call, but now I'm not sure we're getting anything from this game.

Yeh we'd have smashed them with dier at the back.
