Just seen the goal again and there's yet another example of Burnley's cheating. Dele is first to the ball on the edge of the box, and the Burnley defender takes him out.

Then the Burnley defender who fouled Dele starts holding his face trying to get the game stopped.

Despicable antics all afternoon.

Just got back from the game. I’m frozen damp and soggy.... but so glad we won. That Burnley team did not want to play football. They deserve to go down with that attitude of wasting time and fouling and cheating

Just home from the game, madness travel today with Christmas shoppers and Brent Cross, it was bloody cold today and wet too but we got the 3 points.

The game wasn't the best but it really was attack v defence and Burnley had no interest in playing football, it was very sad to see, They just defended for their lives and wasted time from the first minute, Joe Hart was an idiot all game and how he wasnt booked I don't know. We got the last laugh though which was brilliant.

Burnley asst manager was bouncing around when one of their players got booked for time wasting, indicating it was crowd fault he got booked, what a prat! they timewasted all game and we got 1 min injury time in firt half and 4 in 2nd half, thankfully we got the winner and they got what they deserved....

As for the football, it was not the greatest, Skipp played well, Toby superb at the back, Lamela was shocking - how he lasted as long as he did I don't know. We got the 3 points which was huge after this week and going into Christmas, just hope some of our injuries come back soon

From the BBC match report
It looked as if the Clarets would come away with a deserved point following a tremendous defensive display. They limited Spurs to a handful of clear-cut chances, with Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min both going close, while Hart produced a magnificent save to deny Erik Lamela.

From the same report

Only 3 shots on target, 2 before the goal, at home to a team battling relegation suggests they're right. That is impressive defensively. Dirty, but still impressive.
Only 3 shots on target means fuck all.
Another 3 barely wide of the post.
Keeper, who saves fuck all, all season, for 3 years, makes 3 decent saves.
They put all 10 men in the penalty box and rarely leave their own half meaning no one's gonna get free shots off.

I am unsure why people are slating Burnley. Yes theyre dirty, yes they played defensively and yes they time wasted but what do you expect? The onus is on us to break them down, the onus is on us being the top six team, the home team and the team who considers themselves to be title contenders.

Are you expecting them to come here with their limitations and the position theyre in and open themselves up like a cheap hooker?

If we dropped points today then it would have been down to us, not them. Eventually we did and vital win.

I don't buy that argument.

Bournemouth, who have arguably the least resources in the league, play an open brand of football and have done just fine in the Prem for years.

The problem is that too many managers choose the safe, boring option of sticking 11 men behind the ball and time wasting at every opportunity, because they don't have the tactical ability to do anything else. Hence my admiration for Eddie Howe.

Bournemouth almost always get beat easily vs the top teams playing that style and Burnley are not that defensive or waste time every week

I know clubs like Burnley have to do it to survive, but there's no way I could ever support a team that set out to play like that and showed no desire to attack whatsoever, regardless of the opposition or the circumstances.

Burnley were a disgrace all afternoon with their playacting and blatant time wasting. Always more satisfying when we beat a team that play like this, especially with a late winner. Made a nice change to see a ref actually book a couple of their players for time wasting.

Since losing to Man City we have taken 18 points from a possible 21.
Impressive. But even if we kept that up all season (including at the start where we obviously didn't) we'd get 98 points, not enough to win the league last season, and if Liverpool and City keep their performances up only enough to come 3rd this time. We have some severe competition going. The title-winning standard now is to be near-perfect against the non-Top 6 teams (e.g. 80 points from a possible 84), and then very good against the others (e.g. 20 points from a possible 30, which probably means 4 home wins minimum and a couple away too). Having lost at home to both the pace-setters it's already too late to do that this season - we'd have to rely on them both dropping off while we also did very well. I honestly think winning the Champions League is more realistic for this season. So given that we're looking good for Top 4, I'd certainly be prioritising the cups including Wednesday night.

The ref booked 3 of their players for time waisting, right? And by booking them almost 1 ekstra minute was used before the throw/freekick was taken.

There were 5 substitutions.

Still he adds 4 minutes?

And on top of that, he then added an extra minute for our timewasting??

So, we waste time from 91-94: 1 minute added
They waste from 0-91 (3 yellows): 4 minutes added

I’m not great at maths, but this should seriously be looked at from the ref-Association.

He should have blown the full-time straight after we scored if there is any justice in Football...

No matter how well City and Liverpool play, they can get only 3 points for a win, so if we can keep grinding it out until the injuries ease up, we'll be right up there.

But they have been getting a lot of wins. Right now Liverpool are on course for 100 points with a far better goal difference than us, meaning we'd have to reach 101. That allows us to drop 13 points all season, and we've already dropped 12. In other words, unless their and City's form declines, we'd have to win every single remaining league game to win the title now. To have a realistic chance, both of them would have to drop off very significantly in terms of performances - one of them might, both is very unlikely (they probably won't get 100, but they will get into the low-mid 90s).

I don’t begrudge some teams buttoning up against tougher opposition, especially away. But let’s get one thing right, Burnley isn’t one of these teams that only uses these tactics against the top teams. They do it against EVERYONE. That’s what annoys people.

For example, they lead the league by a long way in blocking shots at 112. The next team has...76. Creating a wall of defenders between you and their goal isn’t some canny tactic against tough opposition, it’s what they do week in and week out. Sod em, I say.
