Exactly what I was dreading. A total disaster.
We lost, but it wasn’t a total disaster. Today the team showed passion and togetherness that has been missing for years. Those fans in the stadium made so much noise and were championing the team until long after they left the pitch.

This was a loss, but this was not a disaster.

This is the way we’re going to play. There was poor decision making buy two players and we wait on the injury diagnosis of a couple of key players.

I’m not concerned about performance, in fact I’m all for it and I think it could have a galvanising effect on the team.

I have faith Udogie will learn from what he did. He knew straight away he'd fucked up, looked absolutely gutted when he went off.

Great team spirit showed tonight alongside some individuals who completely lost their discipline, and the injuries were a cruel blow.

I think the next few games are really going to see where we're really at and will go some way to giving us a clue as to what we can achieve this season.

Many opposing fans and pundits have been wondering how we would fare with key players missing, we were hoping it wouldn't be put to the test too early in, well we're going to find out now. I was encouraged by the commitment shown by some of the fringe players who will need to be called upon in our hour of need so let's hope we come through this first test of adversity.

Phillips and Dorrington will be drafted in and dier deserves his place as well.... he has had some time on the sidelines but really put a shift in ... was chuffed for him... Emerson at LB, Porro, dier and one of the kids .... hojberg magnificent again.

And to be honest... matt lucas is right, beaten 4-1 and its spurs that come out looking like thoroughbreds. Liverpool down to 9 packed their area, what do we do? We fucking go for it hahahaha.... 2 Main CBs out and main LB out what do we do?? ... we fuckin go for it again against wolves. If madders is injured its lo celso and I don't think this teams work ethic will allow him to coast, how could you come in and not be swept along by it? Can't wait for the wolves game now... ange has them running through walls for him

For everyone criticising Dier in these threads, I thought he was really solid and got the defence organised when he came on. Not to mention blocking two shots within minutes!

Actually still very positive after that. The worst thing about that game was VDV, looks a bad one. Hopefully Maddison’s isn’t.

I still think if that Romero tackle is made by anyone else it’s not necessarily a red. Didn’t agree with Neville at all that it was a slightly natural follow through considering how he went in. Still, if he hasn’t been sent off then he would’ve at some point soon after, he was in one of those moods after Silva did him (which massively should have been a foul).

Udogie just has a brain fart.

Big shout out to Dier, Hobjerg and Royal, all written off and all fighting tonight.

Proud of this team. Weird feeling but I’m not pissed off at losing at home to Chelsea, can’t wait for Saturday already

Just got home and so haven't seen any replays so I don't know if the ref and VAR got every decision correct, but tbh I just don't care. Tonight was a farce with how stop/start the game was for all of the decisions - put it in the bin.

As for the players, I thought they continued to play, continued to press and were mostly decent after a couple of brain farts. It looked like Udogie's second was soft and that he got the ball but as I say, not had a chance to see any replays yet.

Crowd were very good tonight, singing the team on and encouraging even to the end. South Stand actually lived up to it's billing for parts of tonight. Particular kudos to Dier and Emerson who both did very well when presumably they weren't expecting to be on at all and Porro, who seemed to be everywhere.

Oh, and fuck Chelsea.

Just to retrace our steps I thought Brennan Johnson was playing really well out on the left always an out always a danger such a shame we had to sacrifice him after the red card. He'll be important at Molineux.

I admire you all for the optimism, but I just can't feel it after everything that just happened.

Our three best defenders (our only three good defenders really) are all out now. Udogie for one game, sure, but our CBs are now Dier and Phillips for the next 3 games and Dier and Romero (who bring out the worst in eachother) for a couple of months after that.

We just got blown up by fucking Chelsea who couldn't hit a pass for the first 15 mins.

And don't get me started on whatever that was by Michael Oliver.

I love Ange, have done since long before day one as I went to many of his games at Victory during that glorious season before he took over the national team. But we are in for a world of pain in the immediate term as this makeshift defence tries to execute a game style they aren't capable of. He won't change, nor should he, but if he can get a tune out of a Porro - Dier - Phillips - Emerson defence next weekend then he may well be magic.

I'm confident that we will be ok in Jan if we bolster the defence, but its gonna hurt for a while.

Am still trying to process what i've seen in that game..
I'm trying to process the loss of the 2 CBs, 1 for 3 games and the other for god knows how long
That is what has hit me the most tonight , literally our worst nightmare. What is it about this fixture?

Geezer standing behind me moaned at every single touch the guy had. Even the goal. He should be really proud of his efforts.

To add to this - all the talk around 4-3 and 5-4 games is now live. Our back four is the best Ange has ever had as compared to the rest of the league he is managing in, so out defence has been super tight. With that being blown open, we will need Kulusevski, Richarlison and Johnson to start providing goals in bulk.
