In the last few games Son has looked poor, but he was purely just unlucky today. The one off the bar and the one which deflected off Ream and over looked like certain goals, and he forced at least one more good save from Leno in the second half.

Absolutely gutted for him that he didn't open his account today, but certainly better than he has been in recent matches.
Good job he likes a goal against City then ?

The past couple of times he's been in the PL, to my admittedly poor recollection, he's not been anywhere near as prolific as he has been so far this season. There's probably a number of reasons that it's clicking for him this time but I think you're right. All the time he's banging in the goals, they'll have a great chance of staying up.
He really only had 4 attempts one sailed over his head in the first half, one went in, two required outstanding saves from Lloris. I know they came to frustrate us and I am not sure who did a better job, Fulham or the referee, they served as a warning that no games will be easy this season.

It was a really good performance. Our tempo was much higher, our intensity was excellent and we fully deserved to score at least 4/5 goals.

If its too close too call then they should scrap the lines and analysing mms and give the attacker the benefit.

Its sucking the joy out of the game.
what we probably have not be told is how much AI has been incorporated or how much subjectivity has been applied
1. When was the ball kicked were all the cameras synched?
2 Is there ay hawkeye like technology like drawing the lines?

I suspect none of the above and its donuts and cups of tea at stockley

He was tackling with caution because anything more rash and caused us a penalty, there will similarly be others slating him for that as well. Credit to Mitrovic for that goal more so than anything else.

Mitrovic won a penalty from VVD doing the same thing earlier in the season.

I was right on top of it, was a collision of strength, Mitrovic is a strong fucker.

He is a machine up front. Can create chances out of nothing, strong with a great mentality. He could keep them up this season but the others will have to improve

Emerson is clearly also becoming better in the WB role and showed in pre-season that his fitness is elite level while Doherty came off a long-term injury. Even if/when he's fit again I don't think he's displacing Emerson at this rate.

This should not be underestimated.

His final third actions have definitely improved. He's put in quite a few balls into good areas so far this season.

Interesting little comparison yesterday Man City had 72% possession and 13 shots 4 on target and we had 52% with 23 shots 10 on target.
You have to read that as we are quicker in attack and intent on creating chances at every opportunity, sort of shoots down the accusations of boring negatively.
It's just occurred to me the bar and post hits don't count as on target.

I was thinking today that the areas we are scoring from is the Golden Zone (6 yard box, centre of penalty Area) is a sign of a really good attack.

There are those who stick the boot in on their pet topics and then disappear, there are also those though who are nonsensely positive as well though.

Yesterday we had a bit more zip and intensity to our play no doubt, I especially liked the improved intensity and alertness to our ball recoveries and getting possession back, and I've always advocated having more footballers in the team so liked that lineup on paper a lot more yesterday..... but a lot of it was down to Fulham, it has to be said. Quite simply they didn't turn up. Didn't press, didn't get in behind the ball, didn't have any attack bar boot it towards an isolated Mitrovic, didn't offer anything. There was infinite time and space for the man on the ball, between the lines, on the flanks, in the channels, in behind, everywhere.

That will be a top three game this season for how easy it was, there was basically no opposition on the pitch, and like Forest last week it should have been an absolute walloping in terms of the scoreline. Yeah a little bit of bad luck in terms of hitting the woodwork, people can moan about offsides (all of which were correct, and the one at the end totally unnecessary to run offside from both of them, Fulham were at our mercy in that attack), but again we barbecued really tamely a lot of very decent attacking situations and we're still nowhere near our best in the final third.

Then after 85 mins that was a total stroll in the park, we ended the last few mins with immature rubbish that gave them one goal back and seemed to then do our upmost to encourage them to go get another......

It was an alright performance, no more no less and was all that was ever needed against such a tame opposition on the day. But calling it good very good or great or drawing any real conclusions from it is as much hyperbole as those who only turn up and call everything crap when they can tbh.

Yet some would say City were more exciting to watch yesterday. Personally I think there's no better sight in football than a fast break transition with multiple players steaming up the pitch, pulling defenders in different different directions. Others would rather see that quick passing probing high possession based football.

Thing is it's completely about preference, and those thinking the latter is the only way you control games need to wake up. There is no right or wrong, and both ways can be successful if you set up correctly, and have the right personnel.

2-1 is not a fair reflection - we were so much better than them. I thought we weee very good today. Everyone did well and Richarlison was brilliant, but I think Bentancur and Romero are a cut above. They might never steal the headlines but I think they’re unbelievable. Best we’ve played so far this season, for me
I don’t like xg that much but it said it was about 2.98 to 0.6 I think , could’ve easily been 3 or 4-1

Agree and Conte finds a nice balance of play between sitting off at times, pressing higher at times, ball retention at times etc etc.

Joseball was horrendous to watch but Conteball i find very balanced and tactical and a decent watch most of the time.

Some suspect defending by Romero in the last 10 minutes but he was already on a yellow so probably couldn’t play his usual game. Fantastic performance from the team though. That was more like it.
The yellow doesn’t explain why he kept showing Mitrovic inside, onto his right foot. Or why, for the goal, after he missed the first tackle he just stands and watches.

From what I can tell, In essence our press isn't determined by position on the pitch ie higher up or from the low block. It's triggered by the opposition making a mistake no matter how small. So a misplaced pass, or poor control from the opposition results in a full team press making it difficult for them to recover. This allows us always to be in our shape and yet with the whole team waiting for that moment means we are always ready to push up the pitch quickly as a unit.

He has an amazing engine. Never seems to tire. If only his crossing was better :(

They've given Liverpool, Brighton, Brentford and wolves tough games, perhaps our shape, intensity and movement of the ball was what made them look so poor.
