Not quite at our level tonight which is really disappointing.

Some poor performances as well as some good.

Thought Hoijberg was unbelievable for 80 mins.

Kulu was pretty poor. Johnson horrendous.

I shall ge forgetting this gane pretty quick.

Time to give Brentford a fucking tonking.

When Maddison plays from the start, Werner is going to be very dangerous for us. He could have been in so many times tonight. Even if his finishing isn’t great, you give him 2 or 3 through balls to run onto in a game, my bet he’s scoring or squaring it for a tap in at least once.

We really need some forward options that have got a bit of skill and can trap a football. Just having a load of speed merchants and hustlers isn’t going to cut it

Compare their bench to ours tells you all you need to know. We are just not at that level, not sure what people are expecting.

They're very very good. But for me the disappointment lies in the fact that there was a real "timidness" to our play tonight.

We've got a real decision to make in the summer about our forward line . Either we go big on a CF or big on a WF that is full of goals because at the moment they don't look good enough to carry us to titles.
It should be the WF - someone with that cut-in skill where you think they might score is needed because none of our current set have it (aside from Son, obviously).

If there's one complaint I have is that we missed several opportunities to put a few balls through to Werner who made a few runs. Dallied and not brave enough to take a chance with those passes, it you don't buy a ticket you don't win the lottery. One of them could have paid off in what was a tight game.

Weirdly if Sonny was making those runs the balls would have been played.

Dynamics I suppose.

Both halves we started slow and then got into the game. Shame to lose to a preventable goal. Missed the quality of the players we have in the international tournaments and the return to full fitness of Madders and Bentancur. I thought our defence was outstanding

Disappointed more in the performance than the result. Of course we were playing the best team in the world who are in good form and we are missing key players. Worried we carved out no chances and are still shot shy as a team. However there will be few games as tough as this so it’s not worth getting too down.

I don't think we were rubbish. I think any other team and we're winning that game but you have to remember that we're playing against the quadruple winning team that for all their financial doping and fraud will go down as one of the best of all time. That being said we were their equals for a lot of the match and we got at them in a way that many teams wouldn't have come close.

Let's be realistic. We were ok but they were better.

Thought that was a pretty weak performance overall.
Not enough composure in the middle of the pitch to see and play the final ball, which was on a lot. But also not enough from the front 3 either, who didn't do enough to threaten. Too many poor final decisions and balls again.

The goal came late, but it just seemed too routine that for City. And very disappointing way to go out of another cup competition.

Maybe just a coincidence but always feel like are football is disjointed and lacks rhythm when he plays. Does some stuff well in isolation but think we missed Bisoumma in there and obviously Son up top.
I actually agree with you. And maybe me saying he was our best player, comes from a place of surprise.
For the first 10-15mins of the game I was thinking ‘Hojberg really isn’t ideal for trying to play through this aggressive City press’.
But in fairness I saw him grow into the game.

Definitely a coincidence today. Our play kept breaking down through Deki and Bentancur. Deki was really rolling before his suspension/illness but looked sluggish, needed an extra touch which always seemed to be heavy. Bentancur was trying things but they weren’t coming off. He still isn’t 100% by any means.

We’ll be back and we’ll be a lot better but it’s a disappointing loss against a very good team.

If I was Werner, I’d be massively frustrated tonight. He made some excellent runs off of the ball and was ignored pretty much every single time. When we have players in the midfield who are able to actually look up and pass in one touch rather than six, I think he’ll be a very valuable asset to the squad.
I think he’s a good loan signing but not the answer long term whilst we are stacked with attackers who aren’t really difference makers on their own apart from Son.

don't think it's just timidness per se...
city's tactical fouling and press stunted our rhythm as well. Unfortunately they were just better overall on the day
