It was never going to be a game that played to eriksens strengths. Leicester City is a different thing entirely.
It's rather aggravating to see the knee-jerk, blind-bat bullshit "disagrees" and "funnies" attached to the first post. It's an absolute cast-iron example of people who got all wound up at (probably in part via reading way too much crap on the match thread) about Eriksen's lack of creativity in the first half then seeing only what they were pre-set to see in the second half.
Every single one of our best second-half chances, except for Son's jammy goal, resulted directly from Eriksen's creativity. Llorente's header, Eriksen's two precise touches in the box that were cleared off the line ...and I've missed one that I can't recall, but noted at the time. He also won the ball several times in midfield and pressed/closed down well.
Even in the first half, he was doing all of the basics of his midfield position well - it was just his set-piece delivery and his lack of chance-creation that was badly sub-par.
Too many people get locked into assumptions and then their brains see what isn't there, or don't see what is there.
Eriksen has been playing a bit deeper recently, since we have had the rash of injuries in attack and midfield and particularly when we have Sissoko and and Winks trying to hold the centre. His assistance is needed there more often, because we aren't playing with a dominating, controlling player like Dembélé or a proper holding midfielder like Dier or Wanyama. It puts Eriksen further from the box most of the time and it reduces his opportunities for creative, killer balls.
His set piece delivery has just been bad. He's no excuse there.
I see some disagree here. If we win the title by some absolute miracle, I’ll donate £100 to SC. If i forget just remind me and it’ll be in after I see the reminder. I hope beyond hope we somehow do it and i’ll be on the next flight over to see the parade but we wont.We arent winning the title
Yeah but we love himFor new members who wouldn't know better.........Just to put this into context, here's todays insights from our resident pessimist
Then
So, while I think Leicester is going to be a tough game and it totally wouldn't surprise me if we dropped points or got beat, I'm not sure pessimistspurs should be claiming any credit for any sort of insight or expertise in his predictions, he makes the same ones every week

in all honesty as I think he is one of the best managers I’ve seen in football on par with Fergie and Pep bar the trophies
I think if they had been more positive against us today they wouldn’t of lost.
i think if they'd been more positive we would have won easily. the only reason it took 83 minutes to score was because they kept 9 men behind the ball. they set out to get a point and did well but thats the problem with only defending.

They did have a few guilt edge chances at 0-0. Hit the post and if not for two blocks they'd have taken one in a double chance. They frustrated us, and I think deserved something. If I was a Geordie I'd think that was harsh.I guess so. They caused us a couple of problems when they attacked. I wonder what Newcastle are like when they play other teams, I haven’t really watched them recently, surely they aren’t as negative against the other teams in and around them in the league table.
We arent winning the title
Think you might be ignoring the games we won we didn’t deserve, especially early on in season, it’s why we have no draws
Winks is becoming a mature, quality central midfielder. He controlled so much today and he’s becoming central to our starting XI

Hope so- he’s very much part of the Poch wayI suspect we'll be handing out a new contract to him soon.
Can we include the times he got back and got in an important block or pressed to win the ball back? Two balls cleared off the line, set up a sitter, and contributed key passes in the buildup to some of our best chances all within the space of a single half of football, but he was dogshit according to this thread.
It's amazing how the scapegoat mentality can cloud your perception of a player -- once it takes hold it magnifies all of the player's mistakes and minimizes their positive contributions. I'm as guilty of it as anyone, so I'm not throwing stones, but I think it's something we should all try to be more conscious of in match threads.
One thing I noted with Eriksen was the defensive shift he put in. On the rare occasions Newcastle were in our box, there he was putting in some important blocks. Two balls cleared off the line, set up a sitter, and contributed key passes in the buildup to some of our best chances all within the space of a single half of football, but he was dogshit according to this thread.
