It's funny because everyone is now talking about Arsenal's 'speed' in the run up to their match with Liverpool in having Aubameyang and Pepe and of course there's always talk of Liverpool's front 3 but in particular the pace that Salah and Mane provide. My point is though, do you think it's strange that we don't try to make more of having both Son and Lucas on the pitch either side of Kane? Or is it simply just not Poch's style?

I mean, people are making things of Arsenal's new dangerous attack and Pepe for one has barely even played a game yet. You would think that having to deal with Lucas and Son when playing us would be a 'thing', especially with what they've both done for us but it's just not, for whatever reason.

Got to win this. Be nice if we could play some assured football and actually take the lead first.

I've already got some twatty Liverpool fans in the pub whos answer to every challenging question is...well, who's top of the league. Arsewipes.

So, it has to be three points to keep the, erm, well,... pressure on them so I'm told.

A title scrap three games in...well fancy that.

Hope we see Sonny, reckon he's gonna be playing like a man possessed this season.

No Ndombers or Lo Celso. So 2 games in and we're back to last season's midfield again.

Goody. :shifty:
The Nbombele injury by all accounts isn’t too bad, so I’d be happy to see him sit this one out and be back for the NLD as I think we will have too much anyway to see off Newcastle, GLC should be able to come on for some valuable minutes of play hopefully in the second half and fingers crossed if we’re at least a couple of goals up.

Can't say I agree on N'dombele. The injury is annoying. At this stage he needs minutes and rhythm not a week off.

I expect we all agree it's annoying but wouldn't it be better to sit this one out rather than risk agravating the injury and having to sit out next week's game?

I think this would an ideal game to put Son and Lucas on either side of Kane. Newcastle's fullbacks looked rather slow-coach when I saw them on television the other week.

One thing I have consistently noticed about Lucas is that his speed is deceptive. Opponents and observers routinely underestimate how bloody fast he is. He has great acceleration as well as good sprint speed. He doesn't look as if he's streaking away, but then suddenly he's behind the line or first to a loose ball.

I see this being a 4-0, Newcastle's defence and midfield look so slow they don't seem to have a good connection with the their big man up front, which will see them to sinking really deep isolating Joelinton. The first 20 mins will be us breaking them down, scoring one, then watching them crumble for the rest of the match as they attempt and fail to draw level.

According to one pundit Liverpool topped the table for 141 days last season.

It's starting to happen again !

From soon after the new year to the end of the season Liverpool were never top of the league once, they were second the whole time, there were times when they had more points than Manchester City but those were the times when they had played one or two games more than City, if all games were played at 3.00 on a Saturday we would be saying City were top the whole time and Liverpool could never catch them.
Hopefully the Arsenal can take a point up there today and then a nice win at home tomorrow will put us up level with both of them.

We know that but it suits a lot of narratives.

I agree. Regarding Lucas, maybe his speed is deceptive, but other times he looks like he jogs into his top speed. Plus without the ball he has a somewhat laboured looking jog to get around.

I just feel like sometimes we don't set out to just really get at the opposition with what we have. It would be refreshing to see us sometimes go a little gung-ho and attack with both Lucas and Son along with Kane. It's a shame that Poch's variety seems to stretch as far as the diamond at the moment as opposed to more of a 4-3-3, similar to how both Liverpool and City set up which would just be interesting to see. You'd think that Son and Lucas up front in a three with Kane and tucked in a little bit to be closer to goal would be a nightmare for oppositions. Especially with the likes of Ndombele and Lo Celso providing behind them.

That's exactly what I mean by "his speed is deceptive"!

Was convinced we'd win easily with a clean sheet but then I saw that Newcastle have yet to complete a pass inside the opposition box. Sounds like something Dr Tottenham can cure.

This is the type of match where I go into it completely confident and we just smash our heads against a wall for 80 minutes, it starts to sink in that we aren't winning it 45-0 and I get really angry. We then score some random long range effort for a 1-0 victory, only after holding on after a late onslaught of hoofed balls forward where some tall, uncoordinated footballer named Joe Linton gives our aerial-timing-challenged CB Sanchez all sorts of trouble.
