Poche has made Steve Bruce look like a tactical footballing genius.
Impressive feat.
Yep. When was the last time Poch picked a team and we all thought, yeah that’s good, we’ll win today. I honestly can’t remember.

If we can’t motivate ourselves to win that game after today’s shitshow then I’ll worry for the season.
We could well win knowing us.
If you don't play your best players, what do you expect? Like a surgeon being given all the tools and choosing to operate with a spoon

Totally agree - we miss Dier badly - he provides security for the back four - we would not have conceded the goal today or against Villa with Dier holding in midfield and that would have prevented both those teams sitting so deep and showing so little ambitionYeah, exactly. Part of me hopes we put that team out there because of what we have available due to injuries (Dele, Ndombele) and players still getting up to match fitness (Lo Celso). But, there's absolutely no excuse for not starting Eriksen but naming him on the bench. Lamela, Son, Moura and Kane are all "much of a muchness" in attack. They are direct players who, apart from rare occasions, offer very little incisiveness/creativity in the buildup.
Honestly, I mentioned it elsewhere, but this was a perfect match for Eric Dier in midfield with Vertonghen and Toby at CB. Those runs forward by Vertonghen to overload the middle/left in attack with Son/Rose with Dier covering the space left behind by Vertonghen could have been what we needed. Have Dier sit in the middle of pitch, utilize an Eriksen or Lo Celso next to him and I feel it would have been enough.
Dier obviously has his shortcomings, but he's plenty capable of playing what Winks is failing to do right now (sitting deep, distributing and trying to break up counter attacks with solid positioning).
Long story short, it's horses for courses. Pochettino is sticking with the same players, despite the opposition, and it's why sometimes it's coming off, other times it's not. We do have squad depth now, and he's got to learn how to maximize it.
Next week will be a completely different game, we only suffer like this when teams play this way against us and there's no way Arsenal are turning up like that.
The one clear cut chance we created, that Lucas put over the bar, came from Sissoko.
If our manager fails to change his mindset, then I am not very optimistic about CL football next season.
He did say we didnt respect newcastle so he has to take the blame as well as his team selection didnt respect newcastle.
Looking back at the posts in this thread, a lot of people thought it was the right team. A lot of people in the Starting XI v Newcastle thread went with that too.Yep. When was the last time Poch picked a team and we all thought, yeah that’s good, we’ll win today. I honestly can’t remember.

Embarrassing that. Slow , lethargic, no urgency, and no CREATIVITY!
Getting sick of the Eriksen and Jan situation now. If Poch ain't gonna play em', then he shouldn't be picking them in the squad at all. Everyone knew how Newcastle were gonna play today, and with eleven men behind the ball, and Eriksen on the bench watching, that's just insulting. Just watching Winks and Sissoko, go side to side for an hour was laughable.
I agree. They've both been in my team in the Starting XI threads. But lets not pretend that plenty of people didn't want to see Eriksen out of the team, or Son and Lucas either side of a No.10 even though it's rarely worked in the past.Leaving out Eriksen and Vertonghen is never the right thing. Simple
Foyth? And who else do you suggest we use at RB?
