Can we stop saying Son can play Central, granted under different managers, but he has looked lost in that Position for the last two seasons. I know he tens to play there for Korea, but different team set up and play

Yeah whether you like PEH or not I think there's no denying he's a fantastic squad player to have since he's always fit, can cover multiple positions and has a great attitude.

I think now's the time to cash in but if, as you say, we don't get a decent offer he'd be well worth keeping around as a backup/rotation option. Maybe we sell in Jan once Bentancur is fit or get like 12-15m for him next summer instead?
We have no idea how Bentancur will be once he is deemed fit enough to play, so I think it is worth keeping until at least January.

He said he was annoyed with us trying to "see out the first half" and that's not what we do now as we should be relentless til the whistle. But blamed himself for not getting the message across. We obviously conceded as a result of trying to see the half out and not pressing
and if there is one thing we really should have learned above all else, it's that we are probably one of the worst sides in the PL when we try to hold onto leads or close out a game put by sitting back and trying to manage it and sustain pressure. We are just so incapable of doing that, and this is something we simply must address, because if we don't we will drop a lot of points even if we score goals and we will find ourselves knocked out of the cups.

Only a friendly and all that, but I was very pleased with what I saw yesterday. Players looked free to express themselves and have some fun and we moved the ball forward so quickly and with some purpose. I actually enjoyed watching us play, which wasn't the case last season.

I don't get the impression that sitting back is part of Ange's philosophy.

Enjoyed it.
Looking forward to the season.
Exciting times
probably.
Opposition not great
but we didn't give them the chance to be.
Their goal a timely reminder.
Keep Lo C as backup to Maddison.
Only keep HK if he signs a contract extension.

I was at the match yesterday, first time in the standing area which was cool. The match itself was really good, i was impressed with Kane this time compared to previous friendly games. He was not dropping as deep, he was getting in between the defenders a lot more and taking up more central positions for passes and obviously scored 3 goals in play in a congested penalty area (something Bild do not think he can do)

As for the rest of the team and play it was just great to see live, some proper attacking football, Maddison looked great again, kulusevski looked very good and tricky in this game and Sarr nearly scored and was getting into some brilliant positions. Ange seems to really like Sarr. Solomon was only on for a short bit but live he is scarily fast and has some superb control. I always liked Solomon at Shaktar and i'm excited to see what he'll do this season.

As always conversations after the game came down to was that Kane's last game for us. It was a very 50/50 split on the situation. I would love him to stay but only if he signs a new contract otherwise i'd prefer us to get a fee than Kane go for nothing in a year.

Shakhtar were standing around for a full five minutes before we appeared for the second half. I guess Ange was getting his point across.
Quite a monumental half time talk I reckon. Most importantly he persuaded Kane to stop dropping deep and to be in and around the box while we were attacking- trust Maddison, Kulusevski and Son / Solomon to feed him. There are goals there for any striker - a striker like Kane will score a proper hatful.

Ange is a breath of fresh air and finally a manger who will not talk in riddles.

Like all projects things will take time and we all need to have patience along the way.

I just feel that the foundations are there and with the likes of Maddison (who is taking to this style of play like a duck to water), Sarr, Udogie, Soloman, Deki to name a few are clicking into gear.

So far, so good: you can tell the players have that freedom and there’s a sense of revitalisation in that squad.

We went to the game, had a thrillingly good day out with my dad and brother. They’re not big in to football like me, but even they said how much more enjoyable it was to watch than previous games I’ve taken them to.

I was impressed with Vicario, made a couple of good reflex shots, but also he’s very vocal. Could hear him yelling at the defence to push up.

And Ange: there was a moment when Vicario picked the ball up, and he was looking at who to pass/throw it to, but Ange was yelling at him ‘PLAY! PLAY!PLAY!!’ And we were quite far away from Ange, high up too, but he was very loud!

Deki got better, and Solomon was better than Son. I was surprised after it seeing the training ground vids, that none of our wingers got to the position of the byline cut back much. I thought that was going to be a key feature in all this?

Kane was more notably further forward in the second half, and got his rewards for it.
Good goal by Dane. Udogie was very good. Romero is an animal. Maddison silky, impressed with him.

Who was the half naked old guy in the hat, is he always there?

Stadium, as ever, is impressive. But, they ran out of Heineken at the bar closest to us, making us have that horrible ipa grapefruit juice. I think the worst thing about the stadium, and it’s a constant on my visits, is the staff. Always so rude, non helpful, and downright miserable.

The guy with tattoos and walking stick? Had Rabbi as one of the tattoos on his chest? No idea but seemed to get a lot of people singing on that area. I wasn't too far from where he was in the south

It certainly doesn't appear to be, but unfortunately when players in our team take on a responsibility of doing something that they have shown time and time again that they're not capable of doing, or that is the weakest element of their game, you have to wonder why they persist in acts of almost wanton self-sabotage. Whilst it probably isn't deliberate, the frequency with which they do it by constantly showing and defaulting to their weakest hand does make you wonder.

Likewise don't compare anyone to how they played in Conte's system. Son may not work centrally under Ange, but playing there under Conte is not the measure of it.

I think as Son gets older it's going to a necessity that he moves more central. Once he loses his electric pace and can no longer beat a man out wide to get a shot away his other outstanding attribute is his finishing, so you get him playing central and high up the pitch to make the most of that.

I think Rich is much more suited to playing as the 9 than Son cos he's more physical, good in the air and a pressing machine, but I think Son could definitely do a job there. Ange's 9s don't really need to hold the ball up so Son could just focus on finishing moves and getting on the end of things.
