VAR checks everything (at least it's supposed to). The ball was in play for so long they had plenty of time to check and clear. They would have to stop play if the ball was booted straight out.

The decision to clear is debatable to say the least.

VAR in England is not mesnt to get things right. Mike Dean essentially admitted it. It is there to protect the refs.
