I suspect the game was called off with a view to it being rescheduled. As we know, for whatever reasons, that never happened. Uefa rules state that if clubs have 13 fit players on their A list, including a goalkeeper, they must play.

By the fact UEFA have stated we forfeited the match we must have met the criteria to play the original game meaning the ruling is correct.

They are making a rod for their own back here. What happens if a CL team goes down with Covid and can’t play in the next round? Do they just forfeit the game? We were the first team to go down with Covid more teams will suffer like we did.
Why are they making a rod for their own back. They have set the rules out, if a team has 13 etc, they play. If not they reschedule. Isn't that the type of clarity that people have been asking for from the Prem

Just don't get why some flexibility wasn't shown. We have between 1-4 midweeks available in January, Rennes have no midweek games. Like fuck this couldn't have been sorted out if UEFA pushed the deadline back.

Also whilst it might benefit us to have some midweeks off, can't agree with those trashing the competition. Yeah it's not the CL but it was perfectly legitimate with numerous decent enough teams in it. To me smacks of deflection for our (continued) shit performances in these second and third tier comps.

After the European super league, Levy will be relentless and see some $€£ ?
Hope not, will just confirm in many of our enemies eyes the prejudices surrounding Levy and us.
What type of sums will be involved. If there is big money to be made from ECL, why did we effectively throw away three games in it, and indeed effectively stop ourselves qualifying

Too many games with a thin squad. It would harm us more than help us imo.

If we played anyway and it turned out those testing negative had it too and we're positive a day later, what would Rennes have said about their squad being thanos-snapped because of a meaningless (to them) game.

The EPCR have done exactly the same with the Rugby Union Challenge Cup whereby the side not effected by Covid was awarded a 28-0 win.
No sporting body can just keep cancelling games in the hope they’ll be able to squeeze them in at a later date, looking at our fixture build up I’m actually glad they’ve made the decision they have.

So why were we not made to play? They must have been told us it would be rescheduled or we would have just played?

I could not give less of a shit about this competition. This means Conte will have more time on the training ground, which is crucial given he missed preseason with us.

I think with Nuno, he was clueless and took the wrong squad to the away games.
In fairness to Conte, the Mura away game was unfortunate and a big learning lesson for him.
I think we should not lose sleep over this comp any more, move on and I hope I see a similar performance to yesterday on Wednesday.

Well, we dont know the full story, but my guess weeks ago was this.
We had 13 etc. But we rightly didn't want to play, because it was a scary looking situation. We were told by someone (s) in authority to close the training ground down.
We decided to unilaterally cancel the game, totally understandably
This enraged Rennes who had left for London already
UEFA tried to get the sides involved to reschedule, but Rennes weren't interested basically.
UEFA were effectively put in an impossible situation. Farmed it out to a committee who came up with the decision I thought they would. Realistically unless dramatic new evidence emerged it was the only possible one

I'm a bit arsed off, to be honest, because I thought we could win this, and wanted a Spurs Roma final with Conte beating Jose... haha
I wanted this when I thought we’d take it seriously. There’s no excuse really, we should’ve pretty much sailed that league with the quality we have, but the players just couldn’t be arsed for it from the first match. Shame, but there we are.

So we have a massive covid outbreak and are forced to postpone not just for our own health, but for the health of fans, officials and the Rennes squad. In response, Rennes put out a tone-deaf, classless statement accusing us of a lack of fair play then subsequently refuse 5 new dates and the offer of playing in France.

UEFA’s response is to blame us and throw us out. Disgusting decision and a decision that Spurs 100% will not accept lightly.
UEFA is a disgusting organisation and therefore I did welcome the Super League, because it was a battle to lessen UEFAs dominans! Fans bought into UEFAs bullshit. I know the announcement of the Super League was faulty and premature, but it was a mistake to dismiss it instantly. UEFA is all about money and greed and is "slightly" biased against English clubs as well in my opinion! This decision to eliminate Spurs is disgusting!

It’s annoying how UEFA have been so inflexible- they seem determined to continue as if everything is normal and COVID hasn’t happened at all. Nevertheless it isn’t the worst thing for us and I’d much rather we continued to improve without the distraction of this competition. I love to see a really serious stab at the Europa League next year, assuming we qualify.

whether you care about this competition or whether this benefits our season or not, it shouldn't be lost how scandalous of a decision this is from uefa. imagine if this was a place in the champions league knockouts on the line.
Exactly this. I’ve seen so many comments about how this is great news without thinking about the broader picture. This happens to have been in the Conference League but could easily have been in the CL.

Nuno played a weakened team - Clueless.

Conte played a weakened team - unfortunate.
