SPURS XI 3-1 CHARLTON ATHLETIC

Jonathan Woodgate and Jamie O'Hara took the latest steps on their return from injury as our Spurs XI beat Charlton 3-1 at Spurs Lodge on Tuesday.

The pair returned with 45 minutes each against QPR last week and both increased their time on the pitch for this second match.

'Woody' played for an hour in central defence while midfielder O'Hara put in a 70-minute shift in central midfield.

O'Hara was involved in two of the three goals as a strong XI team dominated the first half.

Niko Kranjcar opened the scoring with a sublime finish after eight minutes.
He spotted Charlton goalkeeper Ross Worner a fraction off his line and floated a chip into the far corner from 20 yards.

It was soon 2-0 as O'Hara whipped in a corner to the near post and Worner couldn't keep out Vedran Corluka's powerful header.

Charlton replied in the 26th minute with a wonder strike from Callum Harriott, who connected perfectly with an unstoppable volley from fully 30 yards that dipped into the top corner.

Nathan Byrne fired just wide before O'Hara set-up the third goal in the 41st minute. He darted between defenders, Giovani picked out the run and sent him clear, Jon Fortune made a fine tackle but Simon Dawkins was there to tap home the loose ball.

The second half was a more even affair and a resolute Addicks side enjoyed the best of the opening exchanges.

Oscar Jansson got down well to deny Kyel Reid and then saved bravely at the feet of Pawel Abbott. Corluka then threw himself in to block from Harriott.

Substitute Cameron Lancaster had two late chances to make it 4-1 but was first denied by Worner before a 20-yarder cannoned back off the woodwork.

Spurs XI:

Jansson

Corluka, Woodgate (Nicholson, 60), Kaboul, Khumalo

O'Hara (Lancaster, 70), Sandro, Byrne

Giovani, Kranjcar (Carroll, 46), Dawkins (Obika, 60).

Very encouraging about Woodgate. If his progress continues he'll be challenging for the first team by the end of Feb. And certainly available for home leg against Milan you would think ?
