a lot of stuff on twitter saying he's about to join cd tenerife - who play in the segunda division.
presumably that's on loan.

He has played in all positions across the midfield, he played as a lone striker when the u23s had no strikers but that was a disaster and he did not like playing there.

Thats why I said false 9.different kettle. I see him drifting off the left like alli. Not a striker though as you say, it's too specialist and not for his skill set.

Like you I think he did make massive improvements last year and he was our best u23 payer by some distance.
I hope it turns out to be a perfect loan for him and he scores goals for them like we know he can.

that's a really good level for him, feel it wont be long until till we see him burst into a top level league.

Makes me uneasy supporting a football club that gets rid of Shashoua but keeps on dross like Marsh and Tracey. Dark day.
I think it’s more that Marsh and Tracey don’t have a better offer and Shashoua did so he wanted to leave.

Fair point Tom. He knew there was zero pathway for him so he needs to go the scenic route.

i really do struggle to understand a lot of the decisions we make at youth level. sam has always been one of our better talents, not in the absolute top bracket but still one who given time could develop into a good player, perhaps a long shot for that to be with us but he has a fair chance of making it to a decent level. he had a very good season in the spanish 3rd tier on loan so logically the next step is to follow that up with another loan in the 2nd tier, as long as he's on an upward trajectory it would surely make sense for us to keep hold of him. if we have a buy back in the deal then that would at least make it somewhat understandable but otherwise it just seems like a premature decision to move him on.
we didn't have to offer those players two year deals though and the only reason they don't have better offers is because ... well, i think we all know why. tracey cost us 200k and signed a two year deal on let's say, 1k a week, a total outlay of 300k. marsh just signed a two year deal and given his "status" within the squad i would presume he's on a bit more, maybe 2k a week, so an outlay of 200k. we might just about recoup our money at the end of the day but ultimately what are we actually doing here? do the club really think either of these players are going to bring in a significant amount in the future? to me it seems like with tracey we are trying to justify the initial money we spent to sign him and marsh is maybe just very well liked at the club so they want to stick by him a bit longer but in our heart of hearts i think we probably know that the club we've just loaned him to will be about his future level. or maybe i just have both players very wrong and they're going to become first teamers or get sold for 10m a pop.

Not that bothered by Shashoua leaving. Looked okay at u18 level but never convinced at u23 or in the UEFA Youth League. Didn't ever really show at the national youth level either when he was younger. Doesn't have the athleticism or just downright elite skills to really be a difference maker.

I'm interested to know if anyone can name a youth player that has left/sold that has gone on to progress to a point where they are better than our current first team options?
Genuinely, the only one I can think that I'd want is Fredericks as a back up to KWP but that's a stretch

Two that were particularly painful to lose at the time were Bentaleb and Veljkovic - but neither has progressed. They wouldn't get close to the first team squad today.
