I like to think this is a thread we can honestly discuss academy prospects. I’m only posting this this because I’m absolutely baffled. Scarlett is clearly highly rated by the club, by England and by top class managers. But I just don’t see it, trust me I desperately want to see it but I just don’t see the slightest thing that makes me think there’s anything exceptional at all about him. As said absolutely baffled.
Tbh mate, I’ve been watching academy football for 7 years, all levels.

I couldn’t really tell you many stand outside that I tipped for stardom at all, I’ve seen what I thought were world beaters at 10/11, get released at 14, some absolute beasts, not get scholars… I’d say it’s almost impossible to predict , so many dependencies, from how some grows, through to family - difficult game.

the one thing I do see, above all else, is effort and commitment are the key things, big Alice of luck too!

Youth prospects are so hard to predict and gauge how they'll do. Some aren't really thought of and blossom much later. While others who are highly rated fail to live up to the potential.

I see Devine certainly has something about him.

As for Scarlett, okay this tournament wasn't really about his goals and finishing (though his first was well taken). I thought his hold up and link up play was great. He never stopped working either. Must be doing something right if both José Mourinho and Antonio Conte see something in you.

Yeah, this part of his game was excellent. For all he's being praised for his movement and finishing, we didn't really see him excel in those areas.

Thought Devine was very good on the ball ,but very one footed and doesnt get into the game enough. Might be due to being played as a right wing, dont think thats his position but probably played there to protect him as hes the youngest in the squad.
Scarlett has all the attributes to be a top player of the Owen mould, fast strong and very aware and a natural finisher. Not big enough to be a Kane type of striker but has unlimited potential.
Looking forward to watching their developement under Conte and his team

if i had to predict then i think scarlett is going to be more of the brewster/nketiah variety rather than anything ground-breaking. brewster did fetch around 25m to be fair and nketiah's bagged himself a 100k a week contract at a europa league side so not a bad level to reach by any means but not quite the superstar we'd all like. most of the fanfare really has come from jose's and conte's comments but we've had similar before when poch was here and look what happened to most of those. right from the start it's felt like the club have really been pushing their praise for scarlett, part of me wonders whether it's just an attempt to show we value him as we were fearful of him doing a madueke on us.

i think one thing he needs to learn is to work smarter rather than harder, it's good to have a striker pressing from the front but he expends so much energy with very little pay off and then when he does finally get a chance(like late on in the game yesterday) he's too knackered to do anything meaningful with it. as it stands i still have higher hopes for parrott but in the harsh world of football, the clock is ticking and next season is a big one for him.

Yup I’ve always thought Brewster. They’ve all got a similar kind of build as well like 5ft 10 and nothing exceptional physically. His pace is ok but not sensational. If you look at all the top world strikers they generally have at least 1 outstanding physical attribute. Whether it’s pace like Mbappe or being a monster like Haaland. Brewster Nketiah Scarlett their just a bit meh. Tbh that’s why I don’t think Jesus will do much as a 9 in PL,he’s kind of in same mould as the 3 mentioned but with just a little bit more about him. It might be personal choice but I want my striker to have something exceptional about him whether it’s aerial ability or pace or an amazing technician.

I just thought it looked like England tried to play with 10 players all tournament. There was little or no interplay that involved Scarlett and that was either because that is the idea or he can't get involved. Again, it reminded me of Kane in the senior team, except he just drifts about the pitch. The pundits all moan about it, but in games where Kane stays up near the centre backs, he is entirely isolated. Seems the same with Dane in the U19 side.

Another similarity is the use of two big, box to box midfielders whilst shoving the smaller, technical players (Devine, Foden) into the wide areas.

Given the reports that Sam Amo-Ameyaw and Jaden Meghoma (both regular England U16 players) are going elsewhere makes me think that just maybe we have some really incompetent management. I remember Gunter, Dorrington and Donley signing 3 year scholarship forms a lot more than six months before beginning their scholarships. Now Amo-Ameyaw (more so) and Meghoma were being selected for the Youth team for matches in March(Meghoma) and April (Amo-ameyaw). Did they just assume they would sign or what? Nowadays you have to get these players signed early. Bloody Stoke City do it with players playing in the U15's for god sake. Perhaps I am wrong but it just seems odd. If the players were refusing to sign in March then why play them?

I find it hard to believe that the club are happy with the situation and that they'll just take it lying down. Its clear that there's been some tapping up going on behind the scenes. Hopefully this'll sting those in charge of such things to think much more carefully about how we go about managing our young players going forward.
There used to be an informal agreement amongst Premier League clubs not to poach each other's young players. Then City's new owners decided that that didn't apply to them and now all hell has broken loose.

Now I am not saying we are going to sign Sonny Perkins but he only follows 333 people on Instagram.

Want him even more now.
No idea if he's any good but he appears to be a proper Spurs lad and it'll piss West Ham off, so there aren't really any downsides as far as I'm concerned!

About time that we started stealing some talent from other clubs and improved our youth intake.
The last proper steal was probably Devine?
And that was a bit opportunistic, more than a plan.

Someone it looks like Perkins works with is on LastWordOnSpurs tonight. Might hear something then.

EDIT: I said agent previously but apparently not. A coach in some capacity.
