Sounds great but is he playing for his country at u18 etc. if not is he really that good?
He was picked for every international for 14s 15s 16s and then midway through 17s England changed manager and he left Alfie out a few times. He’s comfortably in the top 2-3 English cbs for his age group so sometimes there’s a bit more to it when not being selected.

Yeah and out of the top 2-3 at that age maybe 0.5 on average tops make it right to the top and once every 5-10 years or so does an 18 year old get significant playing time at the top level in that position. 4th choice seems way early to me.

Didn’t we already know this was coming?
I did wonder if this could be where Mason fits in short term, overseeing the development pathway.

It seems that England youth teams are kept together in some ways. When you look at the under 17s then on to the next 3 or 4 age groups. The bulk of players are the same. Look at the under 20/World Cup team, almost exactly the under 19 from prev year. Yes they won the under 19 but you can’t say that a late developer is not worth a start in that team. It seems that once you’re in it takes some getting out.
I agree that you can’t just start from scratch every time and throw 15 players together but it does seem a closed shop at times.
probably why the likes of Romaine Mundle never got a look in.

From a good source:
- Dean could well be going to England youth set up
- Not a huge loss though, but...
- Spurs such a mess at youth level. Wining cups is fine, but how many players have really progressed
- no plan on buying and selling players: should have cashed on in Winks for example
- The Edwards situation was a mess
- Dorrington is potentially interesting, but certainly not for a few years at best

According to Birmingham Live we have lost out to Villa for 16 year old Jamaldeen Jimoh for a likely £1m fee from West Brom

Article states that Spurs were willing to match Villa’s lucrative package to Jimoh so he has decided on Villa.

Not knowing what the wage offer was but we should be matching or beating villa. Ridiculous.

Supposed to be quite the talent too.

Shame.

At 16 he may just want to stay in the Midlands with his family

TBF to him, he inherited a mess, it wasn't a mess because of him

Marcus Edwards. As I remember it he was a clear talent but his maturity and application were in question after reports from an unsuccessful loan spell. We never gave a chance and sold him - now he’s one of the best players on Sporting Lisbon

From what I've seen of him, Alfie seems close to an all-round centre back as I've seen in our academy for a long time.

Now, I appreciate that it's only academy football he has played so far, but he's dominant in the air, very comfortable on the ball and good with the ball at his feet, his assist for Donley against Villa in the U18 PL cup final showing this.

I feel now is a good time for him to work with a manager like Ange, he's only been 18 for a couple months so if the gaffer likes what he sees and able to get a good grasp on where he is in his development then I trust him to decide what's best for him, whether it be get more U21 games, some first team minutes or even a loan.
Think Luis Binks had a similar profile.

Binks was certainly highly thought of at the club, but from what I remember he wasn't as good with the ball at his feet like Dorrington is.

Alfie could of course may not break through with us and could end up having a career in the lower leagues instead, but it's just my take on him.

Went on loan to Norwich and behaved like a prat. Late for most training sessions so they sent him back early. Poch said in a book that he had behavioural problems. Sometimes you need to go down to come back up. Credit to him he has done well. If he had stayed he would never have become the player he is now.

This is such a negative view of one of the things that within the club actually works well
Rastrik moving on after 12 years to work with McDermott is a loss but one
that has been know about for a while so there is a level of contingency
We had 3 debuts last season plus Skipp has continued to improve and a few decent loans - which for someone like Scarlett is not all about scoring goals
Not sure how the selling of players has much to with the youth setup apart from the opportunity side but we all know the reasons why it’s difficult to move players
Marcus happened over 5 years ago now sadly it became a mess largely from Marcus at the time not from Spurs though some would like to think different
The Dorrington bit from a few view live viewings he has made big steps this season I would like to see him go out on loan though it will be tough to find a club willing to take a chance on a young flootballing centre half
