A reasonable bit of potential opportunism. We were clearly willing to go after experienced midfielders to bolster one of our biggest weak points.

Such a shame that alternatives like Cabaye and Cambiasso weren't also available.

Oh wait....

At his peak a great player, let's not forget the FA Cup and champions league he did so much to win. We weren't offered him at his peak but a player who was past it. Mason, Bentaleb and Alli might be central midfielders to compete at the top level in a few years but Gerrard won't be, I think we made the right call.

Without a doubt, a talisman for the club, despite being a bluenose, the scoffers will point to that 'slip' that might have cost them. EPL title, but his derring-do exploits in the FA final and the CL final were Roy of the Rovers stuff.

Off field a different story.

England all those appearances and goals. - much promise but no end product - that golden generation never gave up what Engerland wanted.

Agree except for the point on the golden generation. For me most of the failure lies at the feet of SG Eriksen. Very very poor manager who was given much more freedom than he should have been.

Agree... After I posted I thought about SGE and it was so obvious.

Doesn't sound like we the made call at all.. Poch wanted him, he didn't want to come. Seems pretty clear SG made the decision.
