The season's only begun, but isn't it time we all took a minute and realised that the attitude to the Stoke result is a massive, massive over-reaction.

Sudden calls for Erik "I'd take 40 quid for him" Lamela to be sold, Poch to be sacked, Ben Davies to be castrated.

What's going on?

Have our fans forgotten what it was like in the 1990's. It's like we never drew a game we should have won before.

Or am I on my own and the future is not white or bright, but horribly dull and dreadfully shite?

Some fans have felt Lamela isn't good enough or at least not right for us for a long time. It's hardly simply in reaction to one game.

Same with Poch, some didn't feel he was right for us,

The 90s argument is completely redundant. We've come a long way since then, it's not the right yard stick to use.

I remain on the fence.

That's cool. I'm not saying that people's opinion are wrong. But the reaction to the Stoke game and what was a 15/20 minute cameo from Lamela seems way over the top.

Ah the old "don't you remember the 1990s" cliché.

Up there with "do you want us to do a Leeds" when it comes to completely ignoring context to make a point.

I just think we're really disappointed. Kane puts that chance away and it's a whole different situation.

Huh? How am I ignoring context. We drew a game we should have won. People on here are acting like we were 6-0 up. We got pegged back.

It strikes me that the attitude on here since the game has been doom and doom and more doom. And as a Spurs supporter it's not like we haven't thrown points away from games before. I'm just wondering, what's changed.

I think the reaction has been precisely because things HAVEN'T changed: new season, same old problems.

Too true.

But the knee jerk "everything's fucked" brigade sound more like Arsenal supporters than Spurs. I don't get it. I was as fucked off with the result as anyone... but it's really not the end of the world. Anyone who watched the games should have seen a lot of positives. But the contrast between the reality of the games and the general reaction are worlds apart.

My posts and dissatisfaction with Pochettino are not new, posted (not here) that he was the wrong man ages ago. It is simply a poor appointment. He is not the best coach our money can buy, so he's a poor choice. I have seen nothing (except 3/4 games last season) to justify his further employment. We were just as turgid with AVB and but with less possession and less points.
Please, no one bring up the Capital one cup, beating Nottm forest, Brighton, Newcastle and Sheffield is not progress !

As Blackcanary said, nothing (or at least very little) has changed. We were a dull side with a weak mentality and even weaker back four last season, and we've continued where we left off.

It's disheartening to see our players looking so indifferent. Whatever we might think of the players we had in the 90s, they usually made an effort. One of the reasons why the atmosphere was a lot better back then.

We'll have to agree to disagree on the effort thing. I don't see any evidence that our players aren't showing any effort. Not with a team containing Rose, Kane, Mason, Benteleb, Lamela, Walker.

One thing I don't think our players are, are lazy.

People are perfectly entitled to be pissed off and to vent their frustrations on a forum. If we were all "ahh well, could be worse, at least we have our health, it's always darkest before dawn" then this place would be really boring. I either come on here, throw some ****'s into whoever has pissed me off that particular game, or I go and kill a puppy. Your choice.

Are people seriously not understanding what others mean when they refer to the 1990s and what it was like following Spurs.

We're all aware it's not like it was and we now expect to win most games, but I'd prefer if we weren't a fanbase like Man Utd or Liverpool or Arsenal who can't take losing with some amount of grace and understanding that no matter how good your team is, you're going to get beaten sometimes.

The reaction by some on here is as @thinktank said above, simply hysterical.

I'd like to think even if we're pissed off, we're not collectively going to break down into a group of whining 6 year olds. That's mostly what this board has been for the last 48 hours. It's a draw in a game we should have won. Would have won 9 times out of ten.

There's been practically no tipping of the hat to Stoke, who fair play to them rallied back and salvaged a draw entirely against the run of the game.

Shit happens all the time in football. There are so many positives to take from the Stoke game in my opinon but we're not talking about them, we're mostly just pointing at things and calling them "shit".

Give it a break.
OK, in the 90's we could have poor results. But we had largely players who cared. They gave it a go all the way through.
Did they fail? Heck yes. But most of them (not all) failed trying.

In the modern game, repeated mistakes are not acceptable. Being inferior, yes. Not improve, no.
You aways have to improve. As a player, as a coach, as a team, with tactics, with defending, with running, with corners, with scoring goals, with signing players.

You cannot stagnate, but keep moving forwards.
Stand still, and you are moving backwards.

Most fans expect not to see Spurs rule the fudging world of football.
We just expect to see us doing better than last year.

When you give up a 2-0 lead at home at the start of the season, that's not an improvement.
It's really bad form.

I finally got to watch the game - for 60 mins we were really, really good and should have been out of sight.
from the 60-70 min once Kane was off we were still ok, Dembele had a couple of good forays forward.
The penalty comes out of nothing - elementary mistake by a good defender and then we panic, even then it takes a brilliant ball from Ireland to get them level.
Poch - contrary to what many have said - is clearly mixing up and trying diff formations. With a young squad he is doing well. And will hopefully have some more options soon.
Dier has played two decent games in DCM.
If Kane doesn't need to be subbed or Toby doesn't commit the foul it is a very good performance and a good win.
Looking at the game as a whole there is a need to focus on two things - (1) cutting out elementary defensive mistakes (2) closing out the game - one of the drills AVB did really well during his first season.
