So yeah we all know we need a new striker(or 3) in the summer. But rather than the usual "Just sign a fucking striker please" comments, who would you actually want? I'd love any of the following,

Falcao
Hulk
Aguero
Llorente
Benzema

That's based a lot on me watching them... There are other players I've heard are good but i've not seen them play much so can't really comment. Those five though, jesus!

Probably true, you'd think the most likely ones would be one of the Porto boys or Benzema. Just because the Porto seems like a bit of a stepping stone club and Benzema doesn't seem to be favoured at Madrid. Any other ideas anyone? At least we never bought Chamakh!

I would absolutely love Mario Gomez, but there's just no way for both transfer fee and wages reasons, not to mention that he plays for the biggest club in an again top league.

However, now that he's being played properly (i.e. as a centre forward) a brilliant striker this season has been Napoli's on loan from Palermo striker Edison Cavani. He's two footed, good in the air, very powerful, skillful and scoring a shit load. A bit of a 6ft+ version of Tevez from the few matches I've seen him in, though I'm sure if I'm wrong those who watch Serie with more enthusiasm than me can correct me. I think he'd be perfect for us, and he's young too. The price would be inflated, but boy would it be worth it in my very honest opinionation!

He's already technically Napoli's though, and with them probably being in the CL next season then it's a bitof a no-go.

Eto
Craig Bellamy
Benzema

Harry outlined the real problem last week. We can't afford the wages the top strikers are looking for.

I think we're going to struggle to sign a striker again this summer unless Levy ups his limit.

Is he really that good? I was a massive advocate for signing Suarez because of what i'd seen of him for country and Ajax in the champions league... Didn't think that much to Cavani in the world cup but missed his European games.. And I don't trust Serie A much at the moment!

Exactly. That's why we have to look at kids and start building our forward line from youth. You can pick up midfielders and defenders that are great and will fit our wage structure. Forwards are a bit harder. That's why we should be looking at Toivonen, Castagnignos, van Wolfswinkel, de Jong, Riverie, A Hernandez or Krkic.

Or we just pick up that Croat Perisic and go with a 4-6-0 of Bale - vdv - Modric - Sandro - Perisic - Lennon

From what I've seen Gyan has made a very impressive start at Sunderland. Certainly looked dangerous against us and racked up a fair few goals already.

Know it's not the 'marquee signing' some would like but he's proven Premiership quality and should only get better. Critically he's a realistic target too.

I'd bet he'd cost well over £15m though...

Demba Ba would be an interesting addition.

I get where you're coming from but if we're going to keep Bale, Modric, etc then we need someone who can guarantee goals to keep us in the champions league

I like your list.

Wouldn't mind Lukaku or Adebayor(just needs his head sorted really) either.

Its not as simple as that though is it. If we started spending bigger on wages then our ability to pay transfer fees would go down, hence not being able to get these high earning players in the first place!. A lot of people on here (not picking you out here) would then be moaning about not buying/Levy being tight with money.

Also someone like Benzema or Gomez are on circa £150,000 a week right now, say we did match that, how long would it be till Bale, Modric etc were demanding pay rises in response to this?. We would then have a danger of wages spiralling out of control or disgruntled players that feel they are being payed the comparable rate comapred to others in the squad.

Its a delicate balancing act, and I feel that with our revenues being lower than rival clubs, one that Levy is wise to stick to. Our best bet (like others have said) is a good scouting system and to pick up less heralded players under the radar from the smaller leagues of Europe.
