Any thoughts on Thauvin to Newcastle? Know he was linked with us from time to time - sounds like another exciting edition for them, although people were singing Cabella's praises when he joined too...

Hit and miss, he was in the Ligue 1 worst team of the season last year. He could be good, could be a mess. They are selling Cabella to Marseille.

Good, effective player offering the width and pace United lack, plus he's already shown he can do it in this league. Obviously they wanted Pedro and this seems like a poor second choice, but while the potential upside is nowhere near Pedro's, who is IMO a truly exceptional player unlucky to be dwarfed by even more exceptional players playing in his position at Barcelona, the potential downside with Mane is lower too, with less risk that he won't be able to make the transition - he should be a good addition, and I'd definitely have had him at Spurs.

As per the 'other' thread, it wouldn't happen. It ended badly when they were at Barca together and Zlatan said some defining things on him in his book.

I can't agree, Pedro isn't a great player, and even in barcelona the fans haven't been convinced. He is loved but there is always been a feeling they could better with a player from the academy or buy one in.

It will be interesting how he performs outside the barca system

How's he not a great player? Most in Barcelona rated Pedro above Sanchez when they sold Sanchez to Arsenal last summer. Plus just watching Barcelona over the years, he's been such an important player in some of the biggest games. When Barcelona were at their peak, it was that front 3 of Villa, Messi, and Pedro that tore teams apart and he was an important part of that.

Maybe a breakdown in communication. Van Gaal is awful with names, so he might have said "If we cannot sign Pedro, we shall said Saido"... they just got the wrong one

He's currently squandering all his early promise, so it will be interesting to see how he gets on with a move to a new league and a change of scene. Suspect this one might not go down as a success...

Cause Barca fans are notoriously picky and will always prefer a La Masia product over a player that's been bought. If you ask me Pedro is a good player but he's not great and doesn't belong in the upper echelon of footballers.

They say 'on loan', but I don't even know what that means these days with all the compulsory purchase after 1 min on the pitch malarky. I assume it's a bog standard loan.
