Froch ain't gonna out box this bloke. Time to get nasty.

British boxers don't tend to be as good at that though. Traditionally we're taught to box our way in behind the jab. For the most part Britain produces boxers, America produces fighters.

But Ward's lead is such that Froch is going to have to throw caution to the wind and charge in.

Ward won that easily. The UK finishes 2011 2-10 in title fights.

What is it with american boxers leading with their head every time?

It happened with Khan last week and Froch this.

They should move away from early on as if hurt by the head, and force the ref to issue warnings, and negate their gameplan from the outset.

Blimey, Ward was impressive once he'd settled in and figured out that as long as he kept tucked in tight he could land pretty much whatever he wanted. 25-0 for Ward now, and he's only 27. If he picks his fights sensibly, he could be quite a star.

That said, the comments afterwards were something that maybe a few of our other pugilists should take note of. "I wanted to put my shots together but he moves low and slips and slides, he's very clever up close. It was very frustrating for me tonight. Fair play to him." - that's the voice of a professional boxer who is able to respect when he's been shown up. No excuses, no smack talk, no demanding a rematch, just an acceptance of being beaten on the day by the better man. Froch has a great attitude, i really like the guy, i just hope this is a blip.

Froch took some pretty heavy shots, and over 100 punches according to one pundit.

Froch is one tough fucker, albeit very slow and a bit predictable.

Unbelievable performance from Ward - going to be p4p king in the future. Anyone who can dispatch Froch and Kessler that easily must have something about him.

I've never seen Froch that outclassed before.

Froch isn't that slow lenny, Ward is lightning fast.

I know, I meant more on the night.

Anyone who's had 20+ KO's must have a bit of speed about them.

Kell Brook was also very impressive on the undercard, that will have done his rep no harm in the states, a good prospect.

Just reading Froch wants a rematch. Don't see the point tbh.

I read that as Froch saying he's not opposed to a rematch and that, something about on his day he reckons he could beat him, but no demands, he just said he'd see how it went. Sounds more like he'd be happy to fight him again, but rather because he enjoyed the challenge rather than to get his belt back. Froch enjoys what he does, but i wouldn't be surprised to see him drop a few pounds like the BBC site suggests and go after Cleverlys belt. At least then we're guaranteed to see a UK resident win

Yeah it's not been a good year for British boxing on the world stage, at one point ye had 5 champions, now it's two.

And you mean gain a few pounds RSS surely.

I've also loved the format of the super 6 -it did bring the best fighters together, even if a few pulled out over the time, maybe it should be brought to other weight divisions.

It won't bring a Mayweather and Pacquiao fight closer unfortunately, and we can forget about it at heavyweight because there's no-one worth talking about in that division. The brothers aren't going to fight each other.

Do you mean gain a few pounds? Cleverly is a light heavyweight i think 175lb. i would rather see cleverly fight Bhop in 2012, he could win that imo. Froch hopefully gets a fight with bute so he can get a belt back.

I would like to see Cleverley fight anyone in the top 10 to try and legitimise his strap holder status. I like him, game lad who comes to fight but the top guys will gobble him up no doubt.

No shame in last night for Froch. Ward is a classy fighter who has a lot of subtle, and not so subtle tricks in his locker. People call him boring but I actually enjoy watching Ward.
He hits without getting hit, and a lot of the time he is well within range. That's talent.

Froch will get big fights. In fact I think he will face Bute before Ward does. Bute doesn't want to leave his backyard, Carl loves a challenge and Ward will rightly see himself as clear number 1 and think 'why should I have to go to Canada?

The super 6 has been good for the sport. Shame the media over here didn't relly get behind it until last night.
