This is the second time a Swedish football supporter is killed in football related violence (the first one was in '02).

The Swedish league (Allsvenskan) started today and a supporter of Djurgårdens IF was beaten severly and died later in hospital. He was a father of two from what I've heard and had no connection to any firm.

Black day for football.

RIP.

Is football violence common place at Swedish football then?

Swedish football seems to have been plagued with violence and firms clashing in the immediate vicinity of grounds (or even inside grounds during games) for years now.

Bloke was a father of four and not affilliated with any firms or casuals groups. Wrong place at the wrong time when the thugs attacked. Horrible.

This damn world is going mad.

Life is so precious and thugs kill and maim. I don't understand any more.

Terrible as this instance is I think this has to be put into perspective. The second time in over ten years, not really a common problem there as far as that stat goes.

Deaths aren't a common problem, thankfully, but violence around Swedish games has become increasingly common and it was only a matter of time before it would happen again. The authorities don't seem to have done enough to prevent it.

I'm just glad this sort of football violence hasn't crossed the border to Norway yet. When casuals clash over here at least they're usually miles away from the ground in places where a normal fan won't be caught up in it.
