So Man city's owners selling 13% of their holding in Man City (and the other clubs) for £265 million sounds an amazing deal.

Enic must be only dreaming of this level of investment, although they won't be selling part of the company.

It shows there are investors out there.

I read that Mansour was selling "his 13% stake" in the parent company that owns City, New York City and Melbourne City.
The excerpt from Sky Sports: "Sheikh Mansour has sold his 13 per cent stake in the club's parent company for £265m, around the same amount he bought the entire club for six years ago"
To me, that reads as - Mansour is no longer a shareholder in the parent company that owns Man City... So does that mean he's out of the picture now then I wonder?

Crash in energy prices really being felt here
Yes that was my first thought. They are hemorrhaging money on public services, defence, vanity projects etc. that were always more funded by oil than tax

More like a ton of salt. Does not make financial sense to Uncle Joe. Just my thoughts. I can see them selling a stakehold on their shares, maintaining a majority stake. Now that makes sense.

I know they're a spin off of Guggenheim but isnt one of the guys in it a season ticket holder? Seem to remember that being a discussion the last time that group was mentioned...

Edit: I think they could also just be in discussion to invest in the entire scheme or at leasts in the residential parts of it. Looking at their website, they seem to do alot of real estate deals...

No way do Enic sell now the stadium is so close. I don't think they sell until they can close the NFL franchise moving in too.

I'm calling bullshit, a purchase at this time does not make financial sense.

From an investment standpoint, it is more logical to wait until you're not on the hook for the stadium construction cost and the multitude of exposures involved in a large construction project.

We can't outrightly reject such stories. End of the day, our stadium project almost doubled in cost to 800m. So, I would think Joe or Levy may look to sell some % of stake to raise capital (if needed).

Having said that, Outright sale is something difficult to see at this time

If it happens I think it would have to be a mega offer, higher than that quoted 1.2bn. Personally I reckon Lewis is happy with having a PL club tucked away in his vast portfolio, it will always be there giving him certain status and 'prestige'.

Once the stadium is done, contracts for sponsorship and the NFL nailed Uncle Joe will cash his chips in.

The cliché "Everything has a price" is never trurer than for football transactions. Given the very abnormal USD - GBP exchange rate, and if GBP is the main currency for ENIC (which I don't know if it is), but if it is, selling these days to an American buyer is from a business perspective a no brainer. They will have made such a profit in GBP that they would require a new bank account, since the old one would fill up.

This is all pure speculation anyway, so I don't feel bad about adding to the mix.

Lewis is in his eighties, and is essentially sole owner of ENIC. He'll be thinking about "legacy" and inheritance tax. He's done some "dirty" business in his time. What better legacy than a fantastic stadium. Expect it to end up held in a Trust, with friends and family as trustees.
