Straight back at it in to another derby on Thursday... so instead of dwelling on Sundays disappointment...

Can't see Ange doing anything other than Davies at left back. And I don't think he knows who he can trust in CM at the moment so that's a toss up. Sonny and Maddison don't deserve to start at the moment giving their form but with Werner out I think it means Sonny is guaranteed to play...

There will be no change to the formation so I reckon it could be this (other than the fact he more than likely sticks with Maddison)

------------Vicario
Porro--Romero--Micky--Davies
----------Sarr--Biss
--Johnson---Kulu---Sonny
---------Richarlison

If Davies is out (he had to come off after the Rice kick), I guess... Emerson at left back?

This would be my team. I thought Kulu was excellent yesterday and his holdup play is really underrated so him as a 10 would help you retain the ball up there.

Agree with the team, although I think it's a coin flip between Bentancur and Bissouma. Both have been pretty poor recently but we're so low on in form midfielders that we'll have to go with one of them.

Emerson left. Drop Maddison. I woudn't mind Lo Celso. Play Richarlison, our only striker.

Perhaps not the time for experimenting, but I'd play a back 4 of Porro, Romero, Dragusin and Van de Ven. Remember its only a position on paper before you tear into me.

Vicario
Porro--Romero (C)--Micky--Davies
Sarr--Biss
Kulu--- Gio---Johnson
Richarlison

Drop Maddison, has to happen, and rest Son. would rather Son is fully fit for Sunday anyway, yes I know we just had two weeks off but the quick turn around won't be kind on older legs plus a bit of time on the bench won't be a bad thing IMo. Give the armband to Romero. Only question is if Radu should get minutes.

I'd like to see Kulu as a false 9.

Receive it back to goal then either lay it off or turn and carry it.

Have some hold up and technical ability centrally again with pace and breaking lines from out wide.

Sarr, Johnson, Son given licence to bomb on past Kulu. Porro and GLC to look for through balls.

I'd also like to see only Porro invert in a 3-2 build up shape.

Given him more freedom with the security of Davies and Romero more able to step across and defend the channel behind Porro.

VIc
Romero VDV Davies
Porro Bissouma
Johnson Sarr GLC Son
Kulu

Edit: possibly rest Son for Werner as the set up would suit him.

I think the fact that many fans have different thoughts on team selection game in game out, says a lot about where we are currently - look back to the Chelsea home game and there would be much more of a sense of agreement surrounding the starting 11. Injuries, form and results unsettles everyone and it is the managers job to navigate through that.

I'd swap Biss for Bents as I'd like to see Bents and Gio link up. I also think it's unlikely Son doesn't play at all, so think I'd swap him and Johnson, otherwise this is probably our best current line up. The combinations available mean the ball might actually stick up top for once.

I know Ange has talked in the past about 'copying Pep'

If you look back to how they often lined up with Cancelo (Porro) playing high up the pitch as a left (right) inside attacking playmaker with Grealish (Kulu) holding the width outside of him. On the opposite side Walker (VdV) sits deeper and helps snuff out counter attacks. I don't see any reason it can't work and avoids us leaving someone like Davies completely exposed in 1v1's.

Thought Kulusevski played really well yesterday and showed the type of strength and ball retention that you may need in a tough away game. I think Lo Celso and Sarr would provide good energy and a bit of spark in the midfield. Everything is so slow and predictable with Maddison at the moment.
