"We played well on Thursday, and we have got Aaron Lennon, Gareth Bale, and Jermain Defoe coming back for the Man City game so the prospects are good."

Quotes from Holtby which goes with what was posted in the thread about Storts meeting Friedel and AVB. Seems like we'll have all 3 back for City which can only be good, especially Lennon and Bale.

Ummmm fuck chelsea? I don't think it'll make a difference to our game either way...

City gained momentum at the end of last season and think a defeat tomorrow will physiologically end their season, we can deal with the Chelsea game when it comes.

We seriously don't want to be playing city with smiles on their faces, they will tear our defence apart. When they are not focused and confident we can beat them.

I'd lie t see us mix up the midfield, Hudd and Carroll have both offered something a bit different in their recent cameos.

Either Dembele/Hudd, Dembele/Carroll or Parker/Carroll.

Well if that news is accurate I would definitely play this side:

Lloris

Walker
Dawson
Vertonghen
Ekotto

Parker
Holtby

Lennon
Dembele
Bale

Adebayor

But why do I have the feeling that the LB issue will complicate things.

I expect Bale to play behind Ade though, with Dembele beside Parker and Siggy on the left with Holtby on the bench. I would definitely play Holtby in the deeper role for this one.

Personally I think that side is our best at the moment.

City may well be missing Silva (according to some stats I read the other he remains the most effectiveat creating goal scoring opportunities) and have to play a cup semi, then Wigan at home on Wednesday and WHL on Sunday. That means 3 games in 8 days. Tough schedule.

Lloris
Walker Dawson Vert BAE
Holtby Parker Dembele
Lennon Ade Bale
As much as young Tommy Carroll has impressed recently the thought of him up against Yaya in the middle is a task too far..

Lloris; Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Ekotto; Parker, Dembele; Lennon, Sigurdsson, Bale; Adebayor.
Ekotto has to start at left back. I'd play Bale from the left to begin with. Feel we need to match up with City's 3 in midfield.
This is a must not loose game. A loss and I feel we wouldn't recover.
Also didn't realise City have a midweek game which gives us a slight advantage.
If somehow Bale and Lennon are fit for this I'm quietly confident.

Controversial one maybe, but I'd honestly rather have dempsey and bale linking up up front in a 4231 than ade. I just think he is a clever player and more useful in the air..and plays in a way that means bale can overlap and play one twos through the middle. I think ade is in the middle of a crisis of confidence and can't help but drift away from the goal where he can't be blamed for missing. . I reckon defoe will come on as sub either way, but if avb sticks with the 4231 formation we could play:

Lloris
Walker Dawson Verts BAE

Dembele Holtby

Lennon Bale Siggy

Dempsey.

I would prefer 433 though if Defoe's playing but doubt they'll have trained enough in that formation to risk changing things at this point in season, anyway we need pace up front for 433 to work properly and a passer in the middle so:

Lloris
Walker Dawson Verts BAE
Carroll Holtby Dembele
Lennon Defoe Bale

Parker will probably play though regardless and might be better at the dcm role than holtby given the city midfield..

Walker. Daws. Vertonghen. BAE.

Parker. Dembele.

Lennon. Bale. Siggy.

Benteke/Berba

Undecided really about starting Benteke or Berba as both are in rich veign of form. We can always bring on ade later on though, who can change the game with his clinical finishing and excellent all-round play.

If Bale and Lennon are both back and fit we have a very good chance of beating City, they won't sit back and make us break them down creatively and we will get space round the back for thier pace to exploit

Tough game of course as they have match winners all over the pitch and can beat anyone as we saw at Old Trafford last week but it's a game we can win and I can't wait for it

You must be mad, Jennings is barely faster off his line than Brad he'd get exposed by our high defensive line too

Tough one, but both Carroll and Holtby deserve a start and should improve our team.

Lloris
Walker - Dawson - Vertonghen - Naughton

Dembele - Carroll - Holtby

Lennon - Dempsey - Bale

Naughton because BAE has been doing fuck-all lately, despite Naughton himself having been poor.
Parker has been poor lately, but all three in my midfield have shown qualities over the enitre pitch - rotate their responsibilities:

Dempsey over Ade; both have been piss poor, but at least Dempsey knows how to get into the box for the second ball and score the lucky goal. If Defoe is ready I´d take him.
If Lennon is still out, Gylfi.

Dempsey has to be confident after Thursday night. Ade wont be so I feel that it would be better gong with Deuce as he will carry more of a goal threat. Its a funny one as Ade usually does well against his old clubs so maybe he might actually be the better option.

Wanted to find a place for Carrol but think it would be best just to hold him on the bench and bring him on as needs be. Siggy back through the middle and Bale to go down the outside with his pace I think Zabaleta will get murdered by him.

Holtby in for Parker as his passing is much, much better and he can do effectively the same job as Parker but has more to his game.

Let's hope to god that Lennon and Bale are back for this one.

Lloris
Walker Caulker Verthongen BAE
Parker
Holtby Dembele
Lennon------------------Bale
Adebayor
So the last 2 games we've gone 4-3-3 and in some respects it's worked really well but I'm looking forward to seeing some pace on the wings, getting in behind and stretching the play. It seems harsh on Sig who's found some form, but against City we need to get back to breaking quickly and catching them disorganised. Holtby in CM because he's a tough little cookie to add to his industry, and Sig will be a good little bench option.

this for me. Dont wanna see Dawson get run ragged against aguero/tevez once again.
