I have never seen him Steer a game to use your term for Brazil he always looked like a Frank Lampard, David Platt type player as a defensive midfielder he is shocking, passing is average but he does come alive in around the box. Not saying he is useless but we are not using him correctly I would say...
He can get into good positions, however he usually fucks it up!

His all round play wasn't that good, he is direct and therefore looks like he wants to make things happen, in fact against Chelsea he had very little productivity (bar the penalty which I have highly praised him for). He also lost the ball in the sort of positions that Lamela gets lambasted for, Actually, go and read the recent posting by BC in the ratings for Chelsea thread....

Edit: I;ve quoted part of the analysis that @Bus-Conductor wrote after re-watching the game, it corroborates my overall feeling of Townsends performance, but I couldn't be bothered to go back and note down in detail....

I wouldnt be upset at Townsend starting, because as was pointed out to me as a team we were productive against Chelsea so I cant completely disagree that they should start again together, but I do think Townsends contribution is being very over valued and not looked at objectively. ln my opinion though he is starting to show a few small signs of being a little bit more disciplined, if he can kick on and learn under Pochs tutelage then it will be great for everyone....

Agree with BC on this one. I remember calling for him to be subbed on 50 mins.....

I think he had a good first half in relative terms to his usual performances.

The truth is - The right side of MF is a bit of a graveyard right now. Both youngsters we have in that position need some serious stepping up to fit in with the performances of Kane, Chadli and Eriksen.

Nether Mason or Lamela were visible in any of the training pics or video released by the club today so it's a fairly safe bet that nether will feature on Saturday. On the bench at the very most I would imagine although I reckon next week is more likely.

Would he not have needed to be registered before the last game to be eligible for Burnley?

I've developed a plan in a moment of tactical brilliance with Townsend in Fifa 2015. This plan turns him into a real quality talent and threat to the opposition, it is also very simple to implement, all I have to do is press X and he passes the ball to a team mate.

So does this rule him out?

So does this rule him [Yedlin] out?
I ain't got a clue!;)
You would have to ask the club but Yedlin joined us on 1/1/15(?) and the Friday prior was 2/1/15

All you have to do is press X to make Townsend pass?

And I thought these games were supposed to be getting more and more realistic with the new generation of consoles

Lloris

Walker
Fazio
Vertonghen
Rose

Dembele
Mason

Townsend
Eriksen
Chadli

Kane

Subs: Vorm, Chiriches, Davies, Paulinho, Capoue, Lamela, Soldado
Dembele is so good on the ball but both worth a dam off it. I'd prefer Stambouli which allows Mason more licence to roam. I'd also prefer Davies to Rose. Rest picks its self.
Busy period coming up so rotation required when possible but we can't afford to go without Kane in any game at the minute.

This is actually a vital game

We struggled against them already and they're tough to beat, plus the new manager effect may put a spring in their step

We have to win though so as not to undo all the good work over the Xmas period, especially the Chelsea game

Win this and stay above Arsenal a bit longer

The window only opened on the 3rd, no-one signed in this window could be registered for the FA Cup 3rd round.

Doesn't he already have a W over us this season?

It's not a game we can afford to take lightly is what I am trying to say
Nah I know that. But in terms of the "new manager effect" that you mentioned, I'm not sure Pardew will have that same effect as say Pulis will at West Brom. He doesn't exactly scream confidence. It's really some of the Palace players we can't afford to take lightly.

Liar.

I tried it last night... misplaced.
