Oh and we've been playing at such intensity in the league that I think we could do with resting a few players. Firstly, I'm not sure they will be as motivated going into a game at Stevenage, much like they weren't at Watford.

Secondly, we've seen more calf, hammy and groin niggles recently. There's no need to overstretch some of these players.

Walker specifically, as we have no other right back. BAE has played so many games and is vital to our success, does he really need to play at Stevenage? It's not like our fringe players are shit.

Correct - why do we get the same posters telling us what they think the 'best team' is. All we need from this game is a team which should win the game - and not risk injuries to key players (do we really want to be risk injuries to Walker and Assou-Ekotto and to be without them for Arsenal Man U and Chelsea games for example when we have more than adequate back ups to play in this game but not ManU/Aresenal/Chelsea ? That's why we have a squad !)

By the same token the reason Spurs supported increasing subs to 7 players was to have youngsters on the bench. As we can only use 3 subs, why not have a couple of youngsters on the bench playing a League 1 side to bring on if Harry thinks it safe to do so. That's how they get experience to play in the side - and we (like every other side trying to conform to FFP will realise) cannot afford to buy evey squad player so need to 'grow our own- - its just another piece of investment for the future.

So the necessry compromises may be playing Rose for Assou-Ekotto, Livermore for Walker, playing players coming back from injury such as Defoe, Lennon, Kaboul, Sandro and maybe a couple of youngsters either from the start or available on the bench - not just our 'best team'

We can win the FA Cup and finish in the top 4, but not if we feel the need to play our first team in every match.

Cudicini
Livermore
Nelson
Dawson
Rose
VDV
Sandro
Niko
GDS
Lancaster
Defoe

Saha cup tied?

No he isn't. FA Cup Rule 15(g) "A substitute who does not play in a match is entitled to play for another Club in the Competition in the same season."

He was an unused sub for Everton against Citeh and either injured or not selected for their 3rd round game. Consequently he is available for selection.

Good spot, Sir.

The pedant in me hopes the club confirms this in writing with the FA, God-forbid another NextGen-type cock-up.

Yea this is exactly what I would go for. Should certainly be strong enough and I don't think the likes of Bale, Adebayor and Modric will be needed, not to start anyway and certainly not Parker if Sandro's fit. It's also a good chance to give rests to Walker and Ekotto, who we don't have any real cover for really.

I guess Sandro's fitness is in question, maybe if he's not fit I'd feel Walker may have to play and Livermore will slot into centre midfield.

It would actually be quite a good game for Luongo to make his debut in a reasonably strong side. We are always saying that it is no use blooding a lot of youngsters together in a scratch team.

They aren't a team to be taken lightly we need a strong side to get a result away. They will be very physical and like to stop the opposition playing football. I personally think we should play the like of Parker and Bale but I don't think we will.

We shouldn't be taking too many chances or playing an experimental shape like we did at Watford.

Rest those who need to be rested (Parker, King, Bale) and maybe those with able replacements (Friedel for Cudicini, Adebayor for Defoe) but no experiments or square pegs in round holes (i.e Livermore at right-back, or Kranky in the middle).

Cudicini
Walker
Dawson
Nelsen
Rose
Lennon
Livermore
Modric
Kranjcar
Defoe
Saha

Very nearly went for this, but this is going to be a battle I think and I really dont want to see Niko in central midfield.
