I feel like Zokora has to play in the middle. Our biggest problem was covering counter attacks, something he is very good at, even if you don't rate his distribution or forward movement, he can run down a counter attack. With him their it will give our CBs way less to worry about when our fullbacks bomb forward, something that we want to happen, but have to cover for.

I reckon that's the team Senor Ramos will start with. But after his strange choice against Boro, who knows!

It looks like the red of England (the only acceptable red besides when we've had it)! Be good if Gomes, Berba, Modric and Gio were English wouldn't it?

Yep, that would be sweeeeeeeeeeeet. Instead we've got Robbo, Heskey, Fat Frank and Walcott. Now it kind of makes sense why we never seem to win the World Cup. :-|

tigerish get stuck in ball winner in o'hara complimented with the quick minded & two footed huddy, balance & pace down the flanks, 2 defensive midfielders in front of the defence with magicians modric & berba pulling the strings...

I think this by far our best AWAY XI (or HOME XI against the big boys) at the moment (and I wish I'd seen it this past Saturday), but I think at home against a team who hopefully can't overrun our midfield, I'd think a bit more forward w/ a 4-1-4-1:

-zokora------woodagte-----king----------Bale
-----------------------hudd-----------------------
bentley-------modric-------jenas---------GDS
------------------------berbs---------------------

or a straight 4-4-2:

zokora-------woody------king---------BAE

bentley------jenas-----modric-------Bale

----------------Bent-----Berbatov----------

I posted with my team earlier but I have had a change of heart & I would now play:

GK Gomes
RB Zokora
CB King
CB Woodgate
LB Bale
DM Huddlestone
CM Jenas
CM Modric
RM/W Bentley
LM/W Giovani
F Bent

This would allow Giovani a more free role and also allow Modric to surge forward more!

Hi Danny - that's pretty much the team I said we should have had for boro - except I'd have gone for O'Hara over Hudd - but it was a close call
and it's pretty much the same team as I think should play v mackems - again I think o'hara rather than hudd - but at home especially I could easily live with hudd playing instead

however the internationals and the berbs question mean we'll need till sat morning to get a clear idea of what's going on - and even then it'll be murky in all likelihood :)

Personally, I like the 4-2-3-1 that we tried to line up with against 'boro but I think ramos made a few selection errors.

I'd like to see...

Gomes
Zokora - Woody - King - Bale
Jenas - Huddlestone
Bentley - Modric - Giovani
Bent/Berba

Only going without a bread and butter holding midfielder as we're at home - still really need to get one in but would go for Jenas there for now.

I'd be happy with this line-up. A solid 442 that the players are used to. I might even drop Dos Santos to the bench and start with Bale LM and BAE LB. We only really looked like we could penetrate the Boro defence after Berbatov came on and we switched to a 442 and started being more direct. It was something that was hard to do before Berbs came on as Bents hold up play was poor and he's not particularly good at bringing other people into the game. I do like Bent and I think he has a part to play for us but against the deep lying Boro defence he looked fairly ineffective on his own.

[edit] Rather that BAE and Bale I may go for Bale at LB and O'Hara at LM for a bit of added tenacity in midfield.

I would imagine they will try and shut down Modric & Jenas by playing three in the middle. I would match them up by putting O'Hara/Bentley in there, then play Lennon and Bale as wingers to pull their shape around.

I reckon Ramos will be looking to play down the wings as much as possible.
