Poch already put Wimmer in back 3 formation against Watford, when Jan was suspended. I have little doubt he'll be there again

I'd play Wimmer as the third CB like most people, but I think the outright dismissal of the possibility of Davies playing there by 99% of the people in this thread is a bit premature - he plays there for Wales, he's played CB several times in the past, and he's quite capable of filling the role.

I expect Poch to go with Wimmer as he likes to back Rose up with some height and power, but Davies would be a more than capable deputy there and I wouldn't put it past Poch playing him there.

I think Wimmer will obviously start, as others have mentioned he's played in the same set up against Arsenal and Watford.

The bottom line is, the fact we have two suitable options to replace Vertonghen is extremely good news.

Yes he's been outstanding this season but having two very capable replacements, for a system we seem to have struck gold with, is a touch fortunate imo.

Not sure, because MCity aren't exactly a big side & as Davies plays in a 3 for Wales he might be the better option for this game.

That's a valid point. And Davies is very comfortable on the ball imo. I'd be happy with either starting for this one.

I'd pick Wimmer as last season he played against City away when Vertonghen was injured and we won 2-1. They didn't have De Bruyne but otherwise they were at full strength.

City's midfield is decimated with Gundogan and Fernandinho out. Surely Dembele and Wanyama will dominate the MF. City will probably try to bypass MF with long balls. Wimmer's better suited for this game.

Not really Guardiola's style that.

If it's not Wimmer deputising then his Tottenham career is over and we should sell him this month and replace with someone else.

Wimmer will start against City but, when we play teams that are going to park the bus, Davies would be a better option as he is more comfortable with the ball and will provide another attacking threat.

343 is the way forward for this squad and thankfully, both Davies and Wimmer can play as the LCB. What a squad we have. Hope Verts recovers soon tho.

I don't think that's certain at all. Part of the advantage it's given us is that's it's caught teams off guard. I think Poch's aim is to gain a tactical advantage and make the opposition uncertain what formation we'll play.

For me, it should definitely be our primary formation, but it might not always be the best option for a particular game, especially when we rotate the squad. Now that Vertonghen is injured, it will certainly be more challenging to keep three CBs on whilst also resting players, in cup games.

Although Davies would be competent at LCB, we will soon be back to playing Thursday EL games, so he'll need to be available to cover Rose at LWB.

When did playing for Bales, whoops I mean Wales, give an indication of a player's quality? And Davies is 5ft 11 and Poch has never bought a CB under 6ft 2 - if we played him at CB he'd be targeted like we targetted Aspilaqueta.
