Because with the players we have available a back 3/5 makes sense
In a back 4 Tangana and Dier will be exposed aerially, while its risky debuting Emerson at RB

in a back 3 adding Rodon will help aerially, and even adding Davies will help some as he's used to LCB

while there is less defensive pressure on Emerson as RWB

Sure we lose a forward or mid, but as long as we keep the ones with goal/assist threat that's a good swap

Hojberg Dele Gil Moura and Kane gives firepower
or if ready Ndom for Gil does the same
put rodon in for sanchez then and leave everything else as it is.

Could mean we make a small change to our midfield, and play something more akin to a 4-3-1-2.

Tanganga
Rodon
Dier
Reg

Winks
Skippy
PEH

Dele

Lucas
Kane

Yes, this less than ideal. But our midfield will make it very hard for Palace to manufacture chances. Then, we have to cross our fingers that we can creative four or five good opportunities and convert one or two.

By far, the most important tactic for Nuno is having the team play with a lot of intensity and cohesion. So, success in this game will largely hinge on what energy our midfield will bring into the game. There is no reason I can see for us to be afraid of Palace. It's always a tough game. But we have enough quality and also a strong set-up that has so far proved to be very hard for other teams to break down. Palace will be no different in that respect.

I think the above lineup potentially changes with Stevie B is fit. Likewise, if Nuno feels that Rodon isn't quite ready to play at this level, given his injury. So, goes with Japhet in Big Dav's place, and Emerson gets a start at RB.
I'd change winks for Bergwijn but if he's not fit then Gil as that wide forward has been our out ball often this season and I think Hojbjerg and Skipp can cover for the loss of winks.

If Bergwijn is unavailable, my choice would be -

Lloris

Royal - Tanganga - Dier - Reguilon

Skipp - Hojbjerg

Dele

Lucas - Kane - Gil

Would have had an extra defender instead of Winks. Think that back four will concede, and it will be a disappointing score draw and an opportunity missed
Naturally hope am wrong and we win, the bench has possibilities, would love to see Markanday snatch the winner ??
