Same team as won the last game but if/when we're ahead earlier substitutions for Dier (Bentaleb or Mason) / Alli (Onomah or Carroll / Kane (Son or Chadli).
I think this will be a tricky game and a potential banana skin similar to Newcastle. Norwich's performance at Man Utd was excellent. Appreciate they are not on form but if we went there and performed like that for a 2-1 win we would all be creaming ourselves.
Anyway I think we'll pick the normal team and no resting anyone. People talk about the busy Christmas period but isn't it just two normal weekend games with a midweek game in between. We've been playing 3 games a week for most of the season with little rotation.
I'd like to see Mason on the bench now he is fit as he adds something different to our game I think.
Think we have to be brave enough to rotate a bit to keep fresh for Watford game.
I would bring in Trippier, Bentaleb and Son .. giving Dier and Alli much needed rest (mental as well as physical), and keeping Trippier involved (and his crossing is good). It also lets Eriksen play as 10.
Lloris
Trippie Alderweireld Vertonghen Rose
Bentaleb Dembele
Lamela Eriksen Son
Kane
If we get comfortably ahead .. take Kane and Dembele off .. but Norwich are well organised and don't ship too many away from home, so think that's a bit wishful thinking!
It isn't though because it's only 1 rest day. Even with euro vase Thursday you get 2 days. It's well documented in sports science now that 2 days is the absolute minimum rest a player needs between games to recover enough to play again. Less than 48 hours later, their performance level will inevitably dip and the risk of injury going through the roof.
Some players just won't be able to manage it. Dembele for example, no chance of him starting both games I wouldn't have thought.
You really starting to sound like Gaz_Gammon. Good luck with thatSome sense at last.
Last season Poch only made 4 changes between the games against Leicester and United. The full backs, one of the midfield 2, and one of the attacking 4. Probably imagine it will be much the same this year.
And we got played off the park by Man U and were lucky to get a draw. Hopefully he's learnt from that and will introduce some more fresh legs and use the squad.
I think the point others have made is that rest in this case is relative to the rest the other team has had. For example, if you play a match after only one rest day and the other side has had the whole week, then you are at a significant disadvantage. If they also have only had one rest day, then the team which is fittest and most capable of switching things around has the advantage.
Trying to second guess Watford's approach and adapt our team to that against Norwich is a mug's game. Let's not over think it. We play our strongest available side against Norwich, and that's it.
I just think you have to look at each player individually. Is Dembele capable of playing 2 games that close back to back without risking injury? Given his injury history and the fact Poch rests him for all the midweek games one would conclude that he isn't. Therefore you have to decide whether he's more important for Norwich home or Watford away.
I don't remember us being played off the park by United. I know they had some chances but they were by no means amazing in comparison to us.
