Borussia Dortmund drew 0-0 with Bayern Munich earlier leaving Dortmund in 2nd place 5 points behind Bayern in 1st place but 16 points clear of 3rd.

Think we will face a strong team, but don't think we can do much about that, we have to rotate.

Need to rest the likes of Kane, Dier, Dembele (not a 2 games a week man) and probably Lamela (despite a rest of almost half a game), and it makes sense to rotate fullbacks.

Lloris
Trippier Alderweireld Wimmer Davies
Bentaleb Mason
Onomah Caroll Son
Chadli
Would like to see Clinton on the bench for a 15 minute run out after injury, but that may be optimistic.
I would probably agree with that starting line up, although quite how match fit Bentaleb is, i'm not sure. Have you heard that Clinton is available again then?

Id play same team as today.

Then trips, davies, mason, son and chadli could come in vs villa. Should still have enough

Thought I'd make the midfield invisible in tribute to the final ten minutes of today's game, and the entire West Ham game.

PS- although I agree with it, I don't think there is any chance it will happen and expect to see both Dier and Eriksen, in place of Bentaleb and Onamah.

Bentaleb has played in a couple of u21 games recently, so whilst not match fit at top level, the only way to get there is playing matches....and we need to rest Dier/Dembele

Clinton has been seen in several pics at Spurs in training gear, might be too early but think he's at least back in training so a few minutes off the bench might not be a bad bit of rehab.

I want to see a really strong team for EL. Our chances for PL victory decreased now, whilst our top 3 chances still are pretty good. EL might be the only trophy we can win this season, and if we overcome Dortmund, our trophy chances will be handsome.

Some of the teams people are suggesting in this thread will see us crushed and out of this tie entirely within the first leg. Being dumped by Dortmund will be terrible for morale and will allow doubts to creep into the squad's mind. Villa are an utter disaster of a squad, and even a fatigued first XI from us should have no problem beating them easily.

With the exception of fullback rotation, we should play our strongest XI for the next 4 games going into the international break. Maybe you rotate in Chadli or Son, but other fringe squad players shouldn't be expected to step-in and help us beat one of the best teams in the world.

Worried tiredness is starting to take it's toll on us.

Would go:

Lloris

Trippier Toby Wimmer Davies

Bentaleb Mason

Son Caroll Eriksen

Chadli
However I expect today's team, with rotated full backs and Mason in for Dembele and maybe Son in for Lamela.

If you want to get spanked and out the cup then yes.

We have 5 days rest. Full strength for me.

when dier hits 10 yellows is that a 2 game suspension?
If he survives the VIlla, Bournemouth, Liverpool and United games without getting a yellow, the suspension will be wiped

The problem we have is if we rest too many we could easily get a hiding on Thursday which could have a damaging effect on our confidence.

Two massive nights against Dortmund, that are almost like Champions League lite games.

We should go all out for these.

If we can't beat this Villa 2-3-4-5 days after any game then we don't deserve Champions League let alone anything above that.

If poch has any sense, he would change the entire 6 in front of the defence for this game. Knowing him, we'll play close to a full strength side before fielding a jaded team and losing against the villa

I would very much like to see Heung Min Son starting the Dortmund game from the beginning.
He played 6 seasons (3 seasons with Hamburg + 3 seasons with Bayer Leverkusen) in the german bundesliga
and is probably used to play in this huge ground and with a huge atmosphere

Indeed the Westfalenstadion is over 80000 persons (i still hate to name it the Signal Iduna Park) and the atmosphere is incredible.
I had the chance to make a pre-season friendly game between Borussia Dortmund and Spurs in summer 2006 (a few weeks after the end of the german world cup). The game finished 1-1.
It was only a frindely and the Stadium was fully packed, the atmosphere was great and to be fair the Dortmund yellow wall
in their South tribune is really massive with tens of thousands of flags and scarfs.

I know i will get much stick for that but even if England also has big stadiums like Old Trafford, the Etihad, Stamford Bridge,
the Emirates, these stadiums are packed with seated and calm football consumers where german stadiums are packed
with noisy fans with very large standing sections ( the yellow mauer (Sud Tribune) being a full standing area.

If i remember well, the North Tribune where the away support is located is also partially a stand area.

I am sure our fans travelling away in Europe and our "continental " fans perfectly know that the " visual and vocal" support in
continental Europe is much better than the English one (thanks to or because of the Ultras groups.

Very few of our usual "first teamers" have enjoyed huge european games with big atmosphere like in Dortmund.

I think Son would be very useful away in Dortmund from the start as he already has benchmarks here and exactly know what to expect from such a game.
He could also speak about this ground to his team mates and ask them to focus on their play regardless of what's going out on the stands.

My biggest worry is our players going to Westfalen stadion as if they were going going to Disneyland.
Making much photos but not playing much football...
