I think we will require more craft and a bit more intelligence about our play against Liverpool at Anfield and for that reason I actually like the idea of having Lennon out and having two exceptionally intelligent footballers in Kranjcar and Modric playing.

Did you see Insua being skinned time and time again at Reading?

Know what you're saying but there's no reason that Modric can't take him to the cleaners either, I think Kendall has a sound point - with Kranjcar and Modders running the show I reckon we'll have enough craft to create a fair few chances in the game. It's not ideal minus Lennon but for once it seems we have the depth of squad to cope with key players getting injured - unless Harry does an Emirates on us. If we play to win we have a great chance.

I'm also enjoying the prospect of Defoe spinning Carragher who is looking increasingly sluggish - I think thats a big part of the game, get Defoe on Carragher.

I accept that it may be weird to you that I would not start Crouch and I have absolutely nothing against him as a player. However there does seem to be an unfortunate tendancy for us to start bypassing our midfield and lumping balls up to him too much when he does play and this is not our game. My selection was to create maximum pace to compensate for the absence of Lennon, a five man midfield which is both offensive and defensive and which also provides additinal support for Bale's defensive weakness. If you check my selection again you will find that Hudd is in it by the way.

Agree, and would also point out (as someone already did here earlier) that playing away at one of the big teams this season we suffered from lack of options on the wings. If, as expected, L'pool put us under pressure from the beginning, we would need a release option of the ball to the wings instead of playing it out through the middle, as was the problem v Arsenal. Without Lennon, there is no pace on the wings and no one to run with the ball there to either release pressure or turn defence into attack.
Modric and Kranjcar are very good midfielders, but not wingers and always need to come inside, where L'pool with their 2 DMs will wait for them.

Yes, GDS may lack match sharpness (and should have had more playtime by now as a sub), but sometimes you have to be bold to surprise the opponent. Last year Harry put Gio in the team away at Man U in FA Cup 1/8 and he did not disappoint, being about the only one who took the game to Man U with his pace, ball control and sensible passing.

But, as Alfieconnman said, of course it is not going to happen. We are just talking about possibilities here, not probabilities.

I hope it's not postponed. With Johnson out they are very vulnerable down that side, Kranjcar and Bale would have a lot of opportunity to create. On top of that, I'm pretty sure Mascherano is still suspended, leaving their central midfield as Lucas and a Aquilani who is nowhere near finding his feet and certainly not in the ridiculous defensive midfield role in which Benitez is trying to deploy him. This is a game that we can win at this present time, even with Lennon out.

if this game goes ahead must play Modric and Kranjar - up front I'd play Crouch and Keane

I'm looking forward to Carragher scoring for us again...

yeah with modric and kranky (and tommy and bale) supplying the balls in for crouch, defoe and carra, it should be too much for agger and carra...wait, what?

Liverpool fans say the game could be postponed due to bad weather conditions. Allegedly, this information is also on sky, but I can't find it.

Lenstar at RAWK says : "just had a text from a mate at the club who says he is sure its going to be off. The weather on Sunday wont help either"

Link to the RAWK thread

EDIT : d0h, just saw the other "snowed out" thread!

SSN just said (this minute) that this is one of the games that should go ahead).

The problem with the Scousers is that polystyrene parcel filling from a ransacked postal fan has gotten mixed up with the snow, making the weather conditions seem harsher than they are:grin:

On second thoughts, have just read this:

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=722250&sec=england&cc=5739

Claims LiverScouse have requested postponement.

Liverpool will want this postponed, they don't fancy playing us on current form.

I naturally feel sorry for any fans who have had their plans ruined

but i don't buy into pool conspiracy theories

I'd have thought they would have wanted it played with our injuries and possible problems re jd and jj

i think it's more in our interest to have it postponed as a team, tho i accept that as fans we want it played, and for that reason would prefer it went ahead

however, ATM, it's a game i expect us to lose if we play on sunday, tho won't commit till i see teamsheets as usual

pool are odds on faves to win - seems strange for strong faves to want to pull out
