If they click then they won’t. They have the quality, they just need to apply it. We can win. Blimey! Leeds beat this Man City team with 10 men.
Did you watch Chelsea beat City at the weekend? They ran and hassled and closed down spaces in midfield and forced City to keep passing sideways or backwards and when City did pass forwards the space was incredibly congested. A midfield three of PEH, Ndombele and Lo Celso is physically not capable of playing with that level of intensity, as none of them is particularly quick over 5 or 10 yards.

Hugo
Aurier .... Toby ..... dier ..... reggie
Gio ..... hojbjerg
Bale ..... Lucas .... son
Kane

Get at that defence let that front 4 press them and counter ! Ndombele for me just isn’t doing it don’t know if he is tired or just lack of effort ! Move gio back he done well there last season and loves a tackle anyway and more progressive than any other option ! TO DARE IS TO DO ! COYS
He has played more minutes than most this season.

Sounds like a game for Lamela and Sissoko then (they have both put in several very strong performances against City in the past).

I think this game calls for Lamela, wherever he plays. If Kane can't start I would be tempted to put Son and Bale upfront and have Lamela behind them doing the pressing and general shithousery.

------------------Lloris----------------
Aurier----TA-----------Dier---Reguilon-
--------------?------Hojbjerg-----------
--Bale-------------??-------------Son----
---------------Kane---------------------

If Kane is fit we basically have two positions to fill.

The candidates are Sissoko, Winks, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Lamela, Lucas and big outsiders Dele and Bergwijn.
It is actually really hard to pick the right pair as we need to find the right mix out of defensive stable, hard working and creative. I think I would want to have one out of Tanguy and Gio in there, but not even sure if in the 8 or 10.

Lets see who fights for this opportunity in training.

we need to stop giving the ball away unnecessarily so much - in particular against a side like City therefore serge, sissy, Lucas and (per last night) Gio should all steer clear. I’d love to see Dele if I hadn’t just talked myself out of it!

CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN
Aurier, Dier, Toby, Reguillon
Hojberg, Ndombele, Sissoko
Bale, Kane, Son
Spurs to win 1-0 in the 90th minute when a Sissoko potshot crashes into John Stones arm in the box
Stones is out so looks like we're going to extra time.

I was very impressed by Bale in the second half against Southampton. Real hunger and drive from him. He absolutely needs to start against City, and should be given license to get at their defence

I'd love for Lamela to start but I also worry that Lamela v City in cup final = early yellow card written all over it. Given the tenacity he plays with and the recklessness of some of his challenges that could give us a huge problem.

Ndombele has to be on bench - he has been a complete liability in 2nd half of the season...

My XI :

Lloris
Aurier, Toby , Dier, Reguilon
Lo Celso, Winks, Hojbjerg
Lucas, Son, Bale

If Kane is available, then Kane for Bale

Going with:

Lloris
Aurier, Toby, Tanganga, Reguilon
Hojbjerg
Lo Celso, Lamela
Bale, Kane, Son

If Kane's not fit to start then:

Lloris
Aurier, Toby, Tanganga, Reguilon
Hojbjerg
Lo Celso, Lamela
Bale, Lucas, Son

Basically Dier starting worries me. I think we need Lamela to do his usual hustling and chasing in the midfield, can't see Winks or Ndombele being up to the challenge.

Kane comes in for Winks if he’s fit and Lucas moves to Midfield

I imagine it will be the same starting XI as against Soton, with Kane available off the bench.

Its kind of funny to see people talking about benching Ndombele - and on form that may be correct - but one thing I noticed about Mason against Soton, he kept his faith in the players at half-time, instead of hauling 1 or two off that deserved it. We talk about the negative criticism from managers like Jose - and the impact that has on the players. Mason looks to be the opposite - more like Poch - where he may show a little more love to the players who need to improve performance.
