TEDDY SHERINGHAM SIGNS FOR
BECKENHAM TOWN

It's not a headline that many Beckenham Town supporters, or for that matter the majority of non-league followers, could ever believe they would see in print. But it became reality on Tuesday afternoon when Becks' Chairman Chris McCarthy obtained Sheringham's signature. Becks expect to complete Sheringham's registration with the Kent League later today (Wednesday). The timing of Sheringham's registration qualifies him to play for Becks in their Carlsberg F.A. Vase tie at Eden Park Avenue on Saturday 19th September against Banstead Athletic. Sheringham is included in Beckenham's squad for Saturday's Bulmer's Kent League game at Holmesdale although at present there is no confirmation from the club as to when the ex England and Manchester Utd star is likely to make his début. However, the Banstead Athletic Vase tie looks to be the more likely match.

Sheringham played at Eden Park Avenue in a recent Fund Raising game alongside his son Charlie and a host of other football stars including Jamie Rednapp, Darren Anderton, Tony Cascarino and rugby legend Matt Dawson.

Becks Chairman, Chris McCarthy, was naturally delighted with his new signing. "We were all thrilled on Saturday that Teddy took time out to phone at half time to see how we where getting on in our Vase tie against Wealden. It's a great time for the club and the local football community".http://www.beckenhamtownfc.co.uk/news stories_reports/sherringhamsigns.htm

I think its a great move for Teddy and for Beckenham. Years ago many players ended up playing non league football due to their love of the game, it also was a bonus for the clubs and it would put many more on the gate and everyone was a winner.

He's still in incredible shape though, i don't see this as a surprise at all. If anything, it's more surprising he's not done this sooner - as far as i was aware, wasn't he looking at getting a few coaching tickets?

Well, good luck to him, i'm sure he'll enjoy himself and do Beckenham Town a treat
