Capello and the FA have been going on about how players should respect ref's so Terry is made captain. That's like making someone who's idol was Himmler the head of the Commission for Equalities and Human Rights.

Rio Ferdinand should have been the captain as he is the most improved player and person on and off the pitch. The England captain should be a respectable person not a bully and a thug.

no ashley young, AGAIN
no recognised RB, AGAIN
only 4 strikers, AGAIN (most teams in the euros went with 5/6)
no pace in the team, AGAIN

robbo in the team, WHY?
no agbonlahor, WHY
beckham, WHY?

etc,etc,etc

same old shit everytime theres a squad announcement/selection

BORING BORING ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'd like see

-------------------james-----------------

g johnson-----rio(c)---------terry--------a cole

--------------hargreaves/carrick-----------

--------bentley-------------gerrard---------

---------------j cole------------------------

----------rooney--------agbonlahor--------

its got pace, skill, attacking full-backs ang almost certainlt GOALS
i mean, how much worse could my selection be compared to what we've had to endure over the last couple of years?

Agree. Terry's ref rushing, sly spitting thuggish behaviour is not up to the high moral standards expected of today's modern footballers playing for their national team. Oh, wait............

Seriously though Rio or Gerrard have been more deserving recently. I would prefer that a modicum of consideration had been given to the current "Respect" campaign. Re runs of last years Ashley Cole booking incident show Terry's true nature in all it's glory. He's almost worthy of the word often represented by 4 asterisks that I never use.

Yes that Rio Ferdinand, that Rio Ferdinand who has learnt from his mistakes and changed his ways. In the past couple of seasons he has matured as a player and is becoming an ideal captain for both club and country. Yes he missed a drug's test but he served his ban for it. I would much rather see him as captain instead of that bully Terry.

 Absolutely. I never used to be the biggest fan of Rio but he has matured a great deal the last few seasons and should have been made captain. Now the skipper and vice skipper are the two CB's so it looks like no one else will get a look in which is a shame. Although i would rather have Woody and King fit for spurs than shitty England. I'm gutted Terry is captain again and really cannot be bothered with England anymore. And how is Ashley Young not in the squad!?!?

Grade A huh?

I'd say he was more like a Grade Z ****. Bottom.of.the.pile.

This news is sickening, along with the squad, which is piss poor.

Terry was the captain under former coach Steve McClaren as England failed to qualify for Euro 2008.

Says a lot about his leadership doesn't it ? Why did he not appoint rio.. Better friggin work out. Also agree with the post up there about what the england team should look like. Same old shite with no pace..

true I see your point. But football is a comersionalised thing, and the capitain of the national team is supposed lead by example the entire nation, someone who does something wrong when they where 20 that is still something which is still their you cant erase your past. Who the captian is apart from that dosent mean all that much. You need a leader but you need 11 leaders to play in the national team. In Italy Cassano is regually dropped from Italy sides dispite his obvious ability, why? Because their are big question markes about his attitude (which I think is stupid...but)

Sod Terry or Rio, Stevie G should be the England skipper. As far as i can remember he doesnt miss drug tests or have a pop at refs everytime they make a decision against him.

Not that i am really bothered as like others have said its the same old boring England squad with no imagination.

That's funny; he was the old one as well. Capello clearly hasn't bothered.

I hate John Terry more than any other footballer in the world. It's like they don't want me to support my national team. They make it hard enough for me to support England anyway, but now this? Give it to someone else, anyone else. I'd rather see Emile Heskey as England captain and start every game than see John fucking Terry anywhere near the England team, let alone be fucking captain.

One of the most frustrating things about it is that this means Ledley and Woodgate have absolutely no chance of getting in England teams now when both **** Terry and Rio are fit. All Terry being captain does is give him an automatic place in every England starting XI from now on when he's fit. Ferdinand is one of the best centre backs in the world now, so he deservesto play, or at least to fight for his place against Ledley and/or Woodgate. Woodgate's better than Terry, and I'm not even gonna start to compare that **** to best centre back in the world - Ledley.

With all the possible captains in the England squad, at least give it to one the best players you're unlikely to be able to improve on. Don't just fuck it up for future selections for the side, because now we won't see our strongest team until Terry fucks off as captain.

It's the Italian style to pick experienced players rather than youngsters. The Italian national team has averaged above 30 years old for a long time as they like to have players with experience and who have seen everything in the game rather than raw talent. While it is a shame to not see some younger players in the squad (Micah Richards, Ashley Young, Gabriel Agbonlahor would probably all have decent cases to be in the squad) picking older more experienced players has worked for Italy at international football. I'm not really surprised by the squad or choice of captain even if I am disappointed by it.

interesting to hear Ian Wrght last night saying that he though Ledley was the best footballing CB in the country when fit.

Shame he's never fit though !
