The case for Tim Sherwood

How do you (or anyone) know what Sherwood's philosophy is ? And what is the "progressive Spurs style we're known for" and when have you seen this ?

Also (watch the videos with Sherwood in it),

After you've watched those videos you should come to the same conclusion as me, or similar.

He said he knows what the club wants, the fan wants. Also he said he wants the team to be more imposing (get on the front foot) and be more progressive - which is what the fan wants. Of course, these are the key points I've picked out from the videos so forgive me for the order it's in.

He also said, "Spurs is my club." So I assume he's like us, and knows we want progressive, free flowing football (push and run).

Also try not to put all the blame on him, the lost against West Ham is unfortunate, but the team seemed more Spurred on than before with AVB. It was his first game, Adebayor had to be subbed (hasn't played all season), and not much he can do especially with an irregular back-four and injury/suspensions on our CDM's. Plus Rose couldn't last any longer, and Capoue is poor at CB (excellent CDM though). So take that into consideration with so many misfortunes, he did quite well in his first game. I enjoyed our play, but he's the manager that needs to somehow fix the players so that they can score - given time, he may be able to. But time is limited, especially being a Spurs manager.

The reality is that there is no case for Sherwood - it would be a huge gamble beyond anything Levy has done before, and would probably mean writing off two seasons whilst he attempts to prove himself

No idea how you come to that conclusion, you've never seen him work, in fact like the rest of us you know very little to make such a sweeping statement.

We just don't have the time to do that while everyone else gets stronger and the fourth spot moves further and further away so yes agree with you.

lol that's exactly the point, nobody including Levy has the first idea how he would work out as he has absolutely zero previous relevant experience .... so no case can be made just a pure huge gamble

Nobody has any idea how any manager will work out, maybe we shouldn't appoint one.

Give us a name then?

no your right there is not a single manager who has actually done it before who wants to manage a side that has finished 4545 in the PL over the last 4 seasons, not a single one, Sherwood is absolutely our only option -ffs no wonder our support gets the pissed ripped out of it by others

You're right though, if the only requirement is that they've managed a football team before there is plenty of choice. As @eddiebailey said a moment ago Neil Warnick fits your criteria, or perhaps Ian Holloway?

but the reality is, if we were to get another manager doing well in another country, exceptions being the likes of hiddink, who is to say they will do well here?? id rather have an english manager who knows the club inside out to be honest, sadly i doubt very much we will be able to be in the position we were 3 years ago for sometime, you dont break a winning formula just make small adjustments were needed. Just look at the most succesfull manager in the EPL, SAF and he more often than not played with 2 strikers!

Seriously some of our fans need to man up, we are Tottenham Hotspur ffs - this is a top top job which will attract a top top manager if we are prepared to actually pursue one. Naming my choice is pretty pointless, as it will just be he won't come, why would he come etc etc ..... but just to please you I would personally go after Benitez

And if Benitez is happy at Napoli?

I think if you're looking for a bit of manning up maybe a mirror would help as you made quite a lot of shall we say whiny posts when AVB was the manager.

If we wound the click back 55 years a certain Bill Nicholson was promoted from within after working within the clubs coaching structure for 3 or 4 years learning the ropes.

Liverpool's domination hit the buffers after they abandoned 'the boot room'.

Only point I'm making is that it's not always wrong to appoint from within and can work.

Some of our players are looking a little flabby...maybe we could give John Gregory a call...:stinkyfeet:

Is there a football fan that doesn't want his team to be "progressive". How you may want us to go about that and how I do could well be totally different. You might want 442, two wide wingers and a more open game. I don't. So which of us is he referring to when he says he knows what we want. He speaks confidently, that's fine, but he didn't really say how he/we are going to play. High line, high tempo, pressing from the front, pass and move or deeper, less ball, low intensity press attacking on the break (and everything in between) ????

All he did was give very positive soundbites that were designed not to alienate anyone, and they didn't, but they didn't tell us what brand of football he has in mind. He said nothing much really, but he said it with confidence.

I have no problem with what he said, but I'm none the wiser either in terms of his "philosophy" (I bet Bear hates him already) . All I learnt was that he is a confident and forthright performer in front of the press.

i like when he said we don't need to sign players, the players we need are here and all they need is a little direction.
