I care big time. We used to be kings of this cup and it brought us so much past glory. We've not won the thing for 20 years now. That's a catastrophe. You won't find the big clubs not caring about this cup.

I'd love to win the FA cup. Against Charlton though I think we can/need to rest some of our players. If it doesn't come off I'll be gutted, but it needs to be done and I'd rather do it against Charlton than Man Utd.

I care.....unless you can prove to me that going out in jan will help in the league.

Winning is a habit , i like to win all games, besides we have a decent squad and the games are at weekends ,whats the problem?

Its the FA Cup for heavens sake.

Its the most famous trophy in the world, the most romantic.

What years did we finish 4th? How about 3rd? 2nd?

Now reel off the years we won the Cup.

Don't let Skyball destroy everything abut this great game called football.

Move to Stratford, sod the FA Cup, fuck the internationals, World Cup in qatar...whatever next, a Euro superleague to make you care less about the national game?

Sad, very sad

I agree it's sad but it's also the reality of the situation and us striving to win the competition won't change the fact that the FA Cup is now nowhere near as important as it used to be. I would wholeheartedly support any ideas for making it a more important competition (give it a Champions League place for example, or more prize money) but until that happens we need to be sensible about it and do what's best for Tottenham.

The fact that the FA Cup is part of our history shouldn't make it more important than it is.

Maybe but you also won't find them busting a nut to win it. Each team that has won it in recent times (including Pompey I think) played weakened teams in the early rounds.

If we can do that and progress then obviously that's fair enough. But as I said earlier our 'fringe' players are all either out on loan or very much in the shop window at the moment so I don't really know how many of them we can actually play in the FA Cup.

Basically it's our third priority and has to be treated as such, regardless of any sentimental attachment to the competition.

If we have aspirations to be a top club and challenge for the title, then we need to have a big club mentality. We have to believe we can win on all fronts. There's no point thinking we cant challenge for the FA Cup and push for top 4 and stay in the Champions League. All the top clubs treat the next game in the calander as a priority. They go out to win every single game possible.

If we dont take the FA Cup seriously, we may still lose out on top 4. Then what will we think? We'll be pissed that we didn't take the FA Cup more seriously. Its all about getting as much out of the season as possible. There's nothing to say resting players in the FA Cup will lead to a victory in the next game. Our 3 wins over Christmas prove that we can win back to back games.

This ^^^

It's a hearts vs heads question and I don't take the heart bit lightly. I was born in 1975 and although I was a Spurs fan since I can remember kicking a ball the 1981 finals(s) played a big part. It was all about the cup when I was growing up. When I was a teenager I could recite the 1980s cup finalists, scores and scorers off the top of my head but could hardly remember who won the league past a year or two

I care. Some of the best matches I have seen have been in the Cup. Then again I get pissed off when we lose a pre season friendly so you can see my mentality

I care a lot. Seeing us win the FA Cup would be on of those moments that I'd remember forever.

In the here and now I love our 4th place finish but it'll be forgotten in twenty years time. I can recall our 1991 cup games more than the special moments of last season.

It's an extra 6 games but our squad can handle it.

I agree with everything else you said (as I said above, guarantee me the EPL or CL, or both:grin:, and I won't care 'for this year, otherwise...), but the footballing World has moved on massively. Last year is the only one since the inception of the CL that we can put your theory to the test...and I can pretty much say that until the day I die I will remember exactly where I was and with whom for the Citeh game last season.

I want us to play a strong team tomorrow, just rest the players who need it (Gallas, Modric, Bale) and go for a big win. This will breed confidence. We need to try and win the FA Cup, it is the best and most famous domestic competition in the world.

Footballers should be able to cope with the demands of playing every week and twice a week on occasion and if we make the FA Cup final it only adds six games to our season. FFS Dawson and Defoe got injured playing for England, injuries can happen, but it doesn't mean we should do anything to reduce our chance of glory this season.

I'm not saying fuck the FA cup. I'm saying it should very clearly be our third priority and IF it comes down to a case of having to put out a weakened team in the cup then that's a decision we should definitely make.

That doesn't mean they don't want to win it though. Why field a full strength team when you're playing someone from League 1 that you could (should) easily beat with your second XI? It's just common sense really especially when the league is more competitive than it's ever been.

Never seen Spurs win the Cup (was 4 in 1991) and I'm reminded constantly by my dad about semi finals at Highbury and solo wonder goals by Villa etc that the cup is big for me. I've grown up with the history of it even though I've never seen it. My eyes haven't seen the glory of the cups (FA) at WHL. And they would like to.

Right, now that I got that out of my system, I think it's important to win on all fronts, but our priorities really do lie with League and Champions League.

And Harry himself will tell you no different (if he's being honest). With all the potential loans, unless we have cover, it will unfortunately become slightly belittled.

Having said that, who's to say a team with the likes of Corluka, Bassong, Sandro, Palacios/Jenas, Kranjcar, Dos Santos, and Defoe/Pav/Crouch cant do us proud?
