The FIA may well have just bailed out Merc:

Not sure how you've come to that conclusion. If anything it strongly favours Red Bull as they built a successful car under the current regulations so lifting their ride height won't be neccessary, but everyone else will. By raising the height of the car, they will all lose pace. This directive which is completely justified, effectively hands RB the title (which they deserve on current merit as they didn't design a shitbox)

I want them to legit win the titleS too cuz they infinity % didn't last year!!! All that let them race bollox from Horner is the killing note. They'd raced for ?? Laps previous to the safety and Lewis was 20 approx secs ahead. The race, championship came down purely to Massi arsing it.

Yeah. In fairness I sort of commented without really digging/understanding the changes. I just took it as face value that the FIA removing porpoising = Mercedes improvement. Evidently not the case.

I think the detail will be in the detail, but I don't see this benefiting anyone except Red Bull really, but if the FIA set a minimu height, then it might impact RB as well. I think Merc have binned this year with the aim of closing the gap on ferrari. I see RB winning it comfortably this year. All this hype about new regs has sort of blown up in their faces :ROFLMAO:

Guys, sorry to break up a well developing conversation, but just to go back over one minor thing; Can someone explain what literally all of that tweet means, like you're explaining it to a ten year old kid?

The definition of a metric, based on the car's vertical acceleration, that will give a quantitative limit for acceptable what the shit? I've run it through google translate, got nothin', sounds like a line you'd hear from a cheap fast & furious knockoff that when you break it down is nonsense. Is it nonsense?

As I understand it - FIA can, and will, measure both the frequency and force of the vertical acceleration of the cars - i.e. how frequently it bounces, and how hard it bounces.

From there - FIA will introduce a metric with the maximum frequency and force permitted. If the car fails that metric, it can be disqualified.

In the short-term - this should effectively eliminate Mercedes and probably Ferrari from competing for the title, this season. But, long-term, I think this will give both teams better clarity on how to design next year's cars - and I expect another tweak or two that will favor Mercedes/Ferrari to help bridge the competitive gap to Red Bull. Similar to the changes FIA made to the floors last year that favored Red Bull (high rake cars) over Mercedes (low rake cars).

Good for Quali - but its going to be bad for racing, unless Sainz can get past Alonso on Lap 1. I don't think Alonso has great race pace, but he has pointy elbows, so getting past him will be difficult.

Even then, it will be Verstappen and Sainz miles ahead of everyone else.

Mercedes dodged a bullet with the Russell stunt at the end of Q3 - that could have ended up doing far more damage to the car - and it was clear that the puddle in turn 1 was too much for slicks, no matter how much the racing line dried out.

Good race today.

Alpine messed up Alonso's race.

Me a Checo fan. Absolutely gutted to see him getting a mechanical failute - he would have finished in podium comfortably if he had finished

Can't enjoying Nelson Piquet being chewed out for being a bigot. What I did not expect is the rest of his family coming out in support.

It is nice to see the people Max surrounds himself with. He opens himself up to people questioning him on whether he tolerates these views. I'm sure he will enjoy his press conference this coming Thursday.

Wonder if Merc can challenge for the win at Silverstone?... they were quick at Barcelona and Silverstone with newly laid tarmac and high speed corners and not being a street circuit is about as good a track as Merc can hope for all year.

I feel that the gap to RB and Ferrari is just too big this year but if there is any chance for them to get a race win surely Silverstone has to be right up there.

It's weird that most of the F1 media won't name Nelson Piquet Sr when talking about this latest incident.

Also the copy and paste statements (including Mercedes) are condescending.

I cant see it. RB have significantly better car - thats not going to change at Silverstone.

Sorry, do you mind clarifying?

The rest of Piquet’s family are supporting him? And hence his daughter is also supporting him? Who I know is going out with Verstappen.
