This is the best season for 20 odd years, since the days of Senna, Prost and Mansell. Well done F1 for finally getting it right. Hamilton was superb today and his team did get it right because if he had changed to a one stop he could well have been 3rd.

Absolutely great race, big fuck up by Ferrari to leave Alonso out when they had the upper hand and great to see Grosjean and Perez overtake Alonso and finish on the podium

I was unsure on the tyres before this race as it seemed the top teams didn't want race each other and were content with saving their tyres but it was great to see the teams get it wrong today

well played Lewis. Great management from the mclaren team. im surprised that both alonso and vets were left out for so long. They must have calculated that Lewis was taking chunks out of their lap times. Keeps this season alive, but the first phew laps of this race represents the true battle yet to unfold.

Ham, Alo, and Vet are clearly the top 3 drivers that are supported by top cars ( perez, maldonaldo, grosjean are pretty sweet too) and one of these 3 will win this championship, but who is anyone's guess.

goodnight

Agreed. My money would be on Alonso as I always feel the McLaren team always have a race-wrecking fuck up in them, and whilst Ferrari ballsed it up today they are usually a lot more reliable.

Really enjoying this season so far. So many of the teams seem so close to one another, which means driver skill counts for more.

Really surprised by Ferrari today. Alonso was lapping quicker at the time of Hamilton's second stop, so not sure why they didn't try for one fast lap and then pit Alonso. But it meant for a brilliant finish and the chance to get to see a driver being told to push rather than to manage tyres.

Yeah the Ferrari garage just seem to have that touch of class about them and look like they could pull this out the bag. And if this great start could turn into a two way battle between the two best drivers in Hamilton and Alonso, this will be a phenomenal season, but like you say, McLaren dont quite have that consistency which is being epitomised by whats going on with Button.

And after seeing both Lotus and Sauber performing so well on a 1 stop, whichever team can squeeze the most from those tyres will most likely win this champ.

Great race yesterday. Had some mates round to watch the sport so had 5 screens on.

Main race, live timings, pit lane cam, car tracker and Ireland on in the corner.

Great having the live timings on for that race, we were working it all out before the commentators did, could see Hamilton closing a second a lap on Alonso and had an eye on the Ferrari garage to see if they were about to get up.

Also the McLaren pit crew cheering more when Grosjean and Perez went past Vettel and Alonso than when Hamilton did was pretty good.

Not a bad qualifying session with the exception of the final few minutes and that man securing pole (don't want to give anything away in case anyone still has to watch it!!). Its scary how close they all are now. Q2 had only one tenth of a second between the first seven!

I would love to see yet another new winner for this race although can't see it this time considering who has pole and 2nd place and the fact its not the easiest race for overtaking. Nevertheless, looking forward to the race tomorrow.

Maldonado needs to get a penalty for that. Off the racing track means you cant just push back on.

Hope lewis has a go at him for it. Must be so anoying to be so close and then taken out.

Great from Alonso though, first person to win more than 1 race.
Schumacher on podium as everyone else lost it!

Brilliant race. Very pleased for Alonso, Kimi and Schumacher.

Feel bad for Hamilton though. Maldonado seems to enjoy crashing into him.

Great race, can't say I am sorry for hamilton's retirement as tbh his tyres were badly lacking grip and on the corner you could see LH was struggling with crap through the corner, no traction.

Well done to Alonso for a good race and I wanted to hug him on the podium! Bless him all emotional and Kimi and Schuey. On twitter there was a post from the ferrari team that the engineer on the podium receiving the constructor's trophy had been all 3 driver's on the podium engineer when they were / are at ferrari - bit of trivia!

Busy earlier so just finished watching it. Great race and a good bit of overtaking which was a surprise. I'm not necessarily his biggest fan but feel gutted for Hamilton, definitely not his fault and Maldonado could easily have taken him soon after because of Hamilton's tyres.....just really stupid from Maldonado tbh. Great to see Raikonen on the podium though!

edit: I see Maldonado has been given a 20 second penalty taking him down to a 12th place finish and out of the points.

It could well happen and seeing them race along The Embankment would be immense......but would it actually be a good race is the more important question. None of these street races quite match up to the likes of Spa and I honestly think if the trend continues then it would be to the detriment, and ultimate downfall, of the sport.
