Yeah, it’s a really bad way to end such an exciting season and close run contest. It doesn’t feel like this was decided on talent racing or engineering. Feels like a proper fix up. Saying that, it’s not Verstappen’s fault and I feel it’s really unfair on him too. His first title will forever be tainted.

What a mess the people in charge of the sport have made of this. It’s going to make a lot of people who may have been tuning in for the first time today think twice about doing so in the future.
Absolutely, first full race I’ve watched in years (probably 15) and the final few laps were laughable.
I thought football was run by money grabbing, corrupt officials, this lot are incompetent beyond belief, they just seemed to be making it up as they went along.
Won’t bother again.

The type and the sheer amount of media the official F1 social channels are putting out currently only confirms what many people feared: they were absolutely desperate for a new champion. A champion who appeals to the younger generation who don’t understand Formula 1 and are celebrating Hamilton being “mudded”

The sport embarrassed itself today. I sincerely hope the FIA get taken to task by CAS, but I highly doubt anything will come of it.

More than anything, I’m gutted for Lewis Hamilton who absolutely deserved his 8th championship. He was robbed today. There’s no other way to put it. The FIA wanted a new champion and they were prepared to compromise their own sporting integrity to get it.

In that case. Why have F1 races. We can just have the race director tell us who wins the race... No need for the race.

Lol there's all these rules but one fo them is to allow racing director to basically do and say what he wants!!!
Yep that can't be allowed to stand as they can make up the rules as they are going along. Over to the court of arbitration!

I just can't understand this attitude. The race was won by Lewis and had been quite exciting up to the last 10 laps. It was a worthy finale and I don't think finishing under a safety car would have ruined it as it clearly would have no impact on the result.

The last lap wasn't even that exciting - Max had such a massive advantage it was only going to end one way.

All the analogies of it being like 3-0 up and then the ref saying next goal wins is not even accurate. It doesn't include the ref also sending off a few of your players.

Would not be shocked if by the next time it comes round there is another rule in place which would stop this happening and Masi is not in his job

Exactly right. The whole “it made it more exciting” is so irrelevant and contrived. How many major finals are there is all sorts of sports that are a let down. You can’t just manipulate the rules to make a show, to do so loses the sporting integrity.

Masi has caved to the pressure of RB and the occasion. The fact that this was the last race with titles on the line is not relevant. Had this been the third or fourth race of the season he would not have intervened as he did and that is not fair, particularly in a sport so strategic where decisions are made based on the rules those rules can’t be fluid.

Masi’s authority going forward is going to called into question. I imagine there will quite a few sarcastic radio messages next year.

I think Masi will be quietly put aside over the winter.
The issue is that there is no one credible really to take his position. They are all shit. Replacing him also sends a clear message that they fucked up and are now covering themselves.

verstappen fans obviously won’t agree and I understand why, but unfortunately its a world championship that will forever be remembered for all the wrong reasons now. Decided by a controversial decision, whether you agree with it or not.

So by that guy‘s logic, explain what happened at spa.

I know most of us are moaning about how it was decided, and it was wrong, but F1 will get massive increase in fans from it... Because of the drama...

Yes, the lords of F1 are catering to people with the attention span of a bird whilst actual fans get shafted. I just wanted to watch a race, instead I got a watch a soap. If they wanted to race so much, just red flag, let cars change tires, and then crack on. I reckon Max would have got it that way and everyone would have been happy. But this? This was utter bullshit. I am so pissed off, this title will be forever tarnished by poor decisions by the stewards.

I get where you are coming from but it’s by no means the first time. You’ve got 1989, 1990 and 1994 off the top of my head.

If/when Verstappen goes on to win multiple titles then 2021 will count alongside the titles Prost, Senna and Schumacher won in controversial circumstances.
