I’ve neved played really other than pitch and putt courses when I was younger. Other than watching the Open championship and the Ryder Cup I didn’t follow the game that closely either then.

It’s only in the last 4 or 5 years since I started betting on golf that I’ve really got into it and now follow the PGA tour all season round. And it’s really made me want to play, but you need plenty of free time and commitment and others to play with. Plus I have a dodgy back, so I think I’ll have to stick with just watching it.

Even just playing pitch and putt and a couple of goes on a driving range makes me appreciate how hard it is.

I started playing at 11, then work and darts & Spurs stopped me playing at the age of 16. took it up again in 89, and wasn't long off the course after an operation on my foot, but only played for a couple of years due to marriage, and starting to struggle to walk. yet again took it up again in 95, but had to start using a buggy finances and health stopped me again 2000 though had the occasional golf society day out with another forum I used to use more than this one "fiso" (to do with fantasy football), and we held a meet up originally just the once a year in the Midlands which then lead to Scotland and Wales and a few others here and there. took it up again in 2006 and finally got down to an 11 handicap with my name up on quite a few honours (though missed on the 2 biggest comps by 1 shot and 2 shots), but in 2011 my health started going downhill, my golf buddy passed away without much warning, and in 2014 I decided to hang my clubs up.

I could most probably play, but would only be 6 months a year, and would be lucky to be able to finish 18 and would suffer during and after, so unless I win the lotto and move to a lot warmer climate I stick to watching 3 comps "The Masters", "The British Open" and "The Ryder Cup", it keeps the heartache down:cry:

Love your new profile picture
I love a bit of affected tribalism. Sport ain't sport without some shit-talking. Well...it may be but it isn't as enjoyable to me. And you rotten bastards gave as much as you got so I enjoyed it.

But in the end to victor goes the spoils so I should suffer the 'indignity' of displaying the flag of said victors. I just thought this year would be different and I could display something more classy like Hank's yearbook photo.

11 handicap. Impressive mate.

I on the other hand am pretty shit. :D

Put it this way, I would be really happy if on the 1st tee I just drove the ball in the air. The fact it ended up on the fairway of the 7th would be a mere detail.

American golfers deserve everything they get because of this

To be fair it was done for charity but still ?

had many a time it landed up on the 9th, or whatever run parallel to where I was playing. biggest gutter to me was 4 occasions I missed breaking 80, twice caused by 3 putting the last green, and losing the 2 biggest comps by a short margin. even tough I used a buggy, losing the 2 comps which meant playing 36 holes, and 27 holes always had it's toll on me. Club championship losing by 1 shot, but needed to do 2 shts better to win due to comp rules, and had a 7 shot lead after 18, but had a complete mare 2nd 18

SAD! UNFAIR! The US is sick of having to unfairly share the Ryder cup with Europe. This will have A BIGLY impact on our future trading relationship with the EU!

Incidentally, I wonder how many Leave voters were banging the Europe drum this weekend? :sneaky::whistle:

Ha! I had tickets for yesterday not today ? still had an awesome time.

I bet you did. How much were the tickets? And was it like a walk around ticket or did you have one in one of the grandstands around the tees/greens?

Congrats again Euros. I wanna give a big s/o to the lads that joined in the shit talk while it was still all to play for. Thoroughly enjoyed it as well as the golf played...mostly by the Euros. Wasn't able to fully participate as I watched the singles with my golfing mate and that would have been rude.

I've said it before and will reiterate it here. England (as most of you rotten f*ckers are) is a sporting culture and I enjoy the way you guys appreciate sport ie fairness, respect for the opponent, objectivity, etc. In 'Murica we like/love our sports but we are not, IMO, a sporting culture (and that is not an opening for any obesity jokes you bastards) eg if you ain't cheating you ain't tryin.

That said, and I don't want to minimize, diminish, shit on, or in any way discredit the Euros victory here, but you do have to admit the ref had a shocker out there today. Was giving everything the Euros way. I've heard of home cooking but FFS. And don't get me started on that clown course. That friggin course has more water on it than all of Europe combined...and Phil found most of it.

But viewing it as you lot do the Euros probably shaded it and deserved the cup.:)

Good stuff but I can’t really stand going to live golf events as you pretty much see bugger all

I’m at Walton Heath on the thursday of the British Masters in a couple of weeks but I’m sure it will be way too crowded

I love going to watch the open qualifying events. Went to Sunningdale for years for final European qualifying for The Open and they were great

Even more amazing is the US Open qualifying at Walton Heath where there are no ropes and you can walk the course down the fairways and see the players hitting shots right infront or beside you

Used to love walking round with Monty. What a player. Only problem is it makes you want to give up they hit it so beautifully

It was a proper course and a true test of golf not a friggin driving range with 18 flags on it!!!!

Only thing that let the event down was the booing imo

If you want to boo then fuck off and watch football. Anyone booing should be thrown out

Support and go nuts for your side and politely clap the oppo if they hit a great shot

Leave the booing to the other lot from over the pond. That is all they’ve clearly got left now because they don’t take the Ryder Cup anymore near as seriously as we do

One American came over and played that course when the French Open took place, shocking

Surprise surprise that was their best player this week, Justin Thomas!

I was being jokingly bitter in that paragraph, after the magnanimous build-up, referencing our match threads. Think you missed it.
