I’ve neved played really other than pitch and putt courses when I was younger. Other than watching the Open championship and the Ryder Cup I didn’t follow the game that closely either then.
It’s only in the last 4 or 5 years since I started betting on golf that I’ve really got into it and now follow the PGA tour all season round. And it’s really made me want to play, but you need plenty of free time and commitment and others to play with. Plus I have a dodgy back, so I think I’ll have to stick with just watching it.
Even just playing pitch and putt and a couple of goes on a driving range makes me appreciate how hard it is.
I started playing at 11, then work and darts & Spurs stopped me playing at the age of 16. took it up again in 89, and wasn't long off the course after an operation on my foot, but only played for a couple of years due to marriage, and starting to struggle to walk. yet again took it up again in 95, but had to start using a buggy finances and health stopped me again 2000 though had the occasional golf society day out with another forum I used to use more than this one "fiso" (to do with fantasy football), and we held a meet up originally just the once a year in the Midlands which then lead to Scotland and Wales and a few others here and there. took it up again in 2006 and finally got down to an 11 handicap with my name up on quite a few honours (though missed on the 2 biggest comps by 1 shot and 2 shots), but in 2011 my health started going downhill, my golf buddy passed away without much warning, and in 2014 I decided to hang my clubs up.
I could most probably play, but would only be 6 months a year, and would be lucky to be able to finish 18 and would suffer during and after, so unless I win the lotto and move to a lot warmer climate I stick to watching 3 comps "The Masters", "The British Open" and "The Ryder Cup", it keeps the heartache down
