Only spurs fans would slate our own captain and one of our longest-serving players. He makes mistakes and so do our other players but no one seems to mention them...

Disgraceful.

And Dembele played half the Chelsea team onside from that free kick yesterday. Make sure you are less biased with your criticism of players, it makes it look like you have an agenda. ;)

I do have an agenda. I want the best tottenham, not the one with the prettiest smile.

I, too, love Michael Dawson, and welcome a thread to unambiguously say so. I have no desire (on this thread, anyway) to debate his merits relative to our other centerhalfs and will gladly defer to AVB on who he chooses from game to game. i'll love Michael Dawson, regardless.

Jeez the way some people talk it's as if Daws can do no wrong. He is and always will be a special player for spurs and spurs fans. That is not a question. What is questionable is his current ability in the context of the squad we have. He is good but we can be better - sadly he can't. Does that mean that we've suddenly outgrown him? No he still has a duty to perform. Having said that, it doesn't mean that we should be content with what he brings to the table. Let's not forget that we have aspirations and like it or not sooner or later he just will not meet the requirements needed to realize said ambition. For the last time this does not mean he's a villain. Quite the opposite. Rarely nowadays do we see a player try so hard to go above and beyond his lot for his team.

On a side note I don't think Kaboul would be the upgrade on Dawson that people think he'd be. As has been mentioned already a good defensive system works with a ball playing cb (Vertonghen, Kaboul and to some degree Chiriches) and an anchoring cb - Dawson. I believe we're still in the market for a new cb having sold our only other anchor (Caulker) this summer so I think we'll be seeing more defensive acquisitions in the coming window.

Kirikesh - yes, it is easier to spell phonetically - will be the answer once he preps up for the PL. He is faster and reacts quicker than Daws but I suspect that in the cut and thrust of PL games when warriors are required Daws will be first on the list simply because he has stood in the line of fire and is a veteran. You cant knock experience. You saw the Chelsea game - it was manic and sorted the men from the boys pretty quickly.

So people blame him for both of our goals we have conceded, but think we need to upgrade a defence that has let in 2 goals in 6 games?

Why not aim to have a defense that doesn't concede any goals? The simple thing is why accept what we have instead of trying for something better. Champions are not content with simply making the grade. If that's what we're aspiring to be then we should be pushing our boundaries and then some.

He was not to blame for the Arse goal, the first mistake was made by Rose. He lost Terry for the goal on Saturday.

Good ol' Daws , nice lad - even had time for a chat and a hand shake when I crashed his dinner lol. He's made mistakes but he has a great work ethic and attitude , someone the younger lads could look up to and that's always valuable. +1

People think you're wrong here because you call a CB, our captain and someone part of a backline who has conceded 2 goals in 10 games, batshit.

Erm...

Which of our defenders doesn't continually give away free kicks around the box?

What is your opinion on Walker, for instance?

He's batshit. Disaster waiting to happen every game.

Does some good things, but not a good defender at all.

My views on Daws and Walker are well known.

When's the last time Dawson put in a MOTM performance? Where's Omar when you need him.

Does that mean he hasn't played well every game he hasn't been MOTM??? What point are you trying to prove with that question anyway??. And MOTM in whose opinion?? On here, TV pundits?? the newpapers?? And at the end of the day, it's an opinion someone is MOTM not actual fact.

You made a statement, i made one suggesting that the reverse is also true, that is all.

The point I'm trying to make is that he doesn't put in performances that set him apart. I'm talking about the general fans opinion. We have a poll every game and every game we identify a MOTM. When was the last time Dawson received such an accolade? Lloris has got it, Rose has got it, Verts has got it, even Walker at some point has got it. Why not MD? That in itself is the mark of his limited (albeit consistent) ability. Don't get me wrong consistency is great but the reason he's consistent is because he doesn't have that extra spark that can take him from good to great - in simple terms he's reached his plateau. He is good and for now that works fine but is he good enough for where we want to be? I don't think so and I know I'm not alone. Yes he's a top bloke but at the end of the day, on the football pitch its ability that dominates. Bring on the negs.

This season i doubt any, last season more than a few and probs less than he deserved imo.

Anyway we have massively strengthened our starting 11 from last season and yes i agree Dawson looks more out of his depth than ever and imo doesn't warrant a starting place anymore.

But my original statement of he can never do anything right rather than he cannot do any wrong has been the case for most of his time at Tottenham.
