From the Mail, so have your salt ready.

Wigan face another Hondurance test to keep Figueroa from Spurs

Why settle for one Honduras international when you could have two? Harry Redknapp could be ready to return to Wigan for Maynor Figueroa.

Wilson Palacios, who joined Tottenham Hotspur from Wigan for £14million in January, has been an instant success at White Hart Lane as a defensive midfielder.

Palacios has given Redknapp good reports of left-back Figueroa and though the Spurs manager has been pleased with Benoit Assou-Ekotto the reliable defender would be a worthwhile £5million investment.

Figueroa joined Wigan from Deportivo Olimpia, initially on loan in January 2008 for the remainder of that season. After a complicated process involving work permit and visa issues, Figueroa rejoined the Latics on a second loan last July before signing a three-and-a-half year contract in December after Deportivo received a fee in the region of £500,000.

He has been an ever-present for Wigan this season and assistant manager Eric Black is aware that Figueroa could follow former Birmingham midfielder Palacios to a bigger club in the Barclays Premier League.

Black said: 'I would imagine Maynor's value has gone up quite a bit from what we got him for.

'Players like him are becoming harder and harder to find. We have picked up two or three but it's not easy. Wilson Palacios has a story which might never be repeated, coming from where he did and ending up at Tottenham for the fee he did.

'We hope we can hang on to him but you never know.'

maybe we should just bring in Wigan's scouting staff, it may save us in the long run?

well we bought one croatian and quickly followed it up with another, bought one welsh fullback and quickly bought another, bought one russian and tried to sign another, so now we've got a honduran with no mate....

Wigan must bloody love us, they buy someone for peanuts and a season later we're sniffing around with an open cheque book...

we should just poach their scouts instead, they seem to be doing a great job there (granted, with some help from the whinger). i like figueroa but is he going to be happy sitting on our bench? probably not, and i can't see him getting ahead of disco benny so it won't happen.

Very good option - he was one of my options for depth at left back

So we're completely writing off any chance of Bale improving further, then? Might as well sell him ASAP.

I knew DC would pick up on that one

He's (rightly) been screaming for LB cover for months now

:) HT

of course Bale might do the job - and maybe today is his chance

if he's given it, I hope he takes it

I'd happily see us saving money in the transfer market - but as is well documented on here, I and many others aren't convinced

far more importantly I don't think HR is convinced either

but best of luck to Gareth if he plays today

go Gareth go!

(and leave your ****ing hair alone! though to be fair he seems to got out of that irritating phase - I don't know what PE teachers are like today - but those from my generation of teachers, if they hadn't died of apoplexy already from watching the Prem prima donnas, the sight of Gareth fiddling with his hair clips would have been just too much for some of the ones that I remember :)

hair clips - we were lucky if the showers worked:)

and forget your kit and the consequences tended to involve varying degrees of sadism and public humiliation

He is a quality LB in my opinion. I guess only Harry can judge if we need him, and I imagine that'd be based on a) if BAE wants to stay, and b) how well Bale's developing.

hopefully not. But aren't the rumours of BAE wanting away circulating again? Or was that just another re-hashed story from yesteryear?

I'd personally like Gareth to ne trained as a LM player to give us competition for places there, but thats an issue for a different thread...

I'd like us to sign a good left back as backup to Ekotto, and pushing Bale to left midfield. So i'd be happy with this myself. But it sounds like just another name linked with us. We'll see.
