This could turn out very well for us.

If Poch turns down RM, despite being the media & bookies' favourite, and despite the RM chairman wanting him, it will send a huge signal to our key players, and hopefully expedite their signing of the enhanced contracts that are supposedly on the table.

Also, Poch is smart enough to realise this is a particularly bad time to be taking over RM, with significant recent success built upon players with huge egos and an ageing team that could win the CL but not compete in La Liga.

He also knows that RM coaches don't get four years to gradually build a Project, whilst his Spurs' Project is already several years into its development.

The challenge is much bigger at Spurs and by virtue the sense of achievement when success is achieved. Couple that with our brand new home, probably the best in Europe and Poch knows he wants to be the manager when Spurs walk out at the NWHL.

"Pochettino, he aint going to Madrid, dont ya know".....

Go read the 2013 ITK archive. Every ITK was adamant that there was no way Bale was leaving. But suddenly, in the back half of July, the tone changed, and the discussion veered over to how much money we would demand. Things change, and it's not the ITK guys' fault.

Personally,I won't be calm before Real signs another manager, but I do believe Poch to be a man of his word, and therefore stay here at least another year. What happens after that depends on if he feels Levy's ambitions matches his own. Funny to read Real Madrid forums, though. Man, what a lot of spoiled brats...

Actually JJetset wasn't if I remember correctly.

Not all, JJ was pretty firm all window in his insistance that if the money was right he may well be sold.
And he's been very quiet for a while and has shot this down.

Excellent points.

Also, if RM replace Ronaldo with Neymar, whilst the football will be occasionally spectacular, massive egos will continue to destroy any sense of Team First with a capital T. And we know that Team is everything to Poch.

No the challenge is much bigger at Madrid. He doesn't win the CL but wins the Copa Del Rey and finishes 1 points behind Barca in the league he will have fans calling for his head. At Spurs he will be entered in to the hall of fame if he finally gets past the trophy hoodoo he has. The Madrid fans will be less patient with his whole making subs until the last ten minute routine.

You can’t really compare this situation to Bale. Bale didn’t sign a contract early that summer and he didn’t openly speak about staying in Spurs. Also there’s a difference between approaching a manager and a player. You can be patient and wait a bit before you sign a player but Real will not want to waste time appointing a new manager.

It sends out a massive message to the chariman and the players that he's turned down Madrid to stay at Spurs....

...and hopefully our transfer targets also. The biggest club in the world want Pochettino to manage them for very good reasons. Come and play under one of the most desirable management teams in world football today, with a fantastic squad of players and a state of the art stadium. The only way is up!

I don't think enough has been made of Poch's quotes last week.

"I am honoured to have signed a new long-term contract as we approach one of the most significant periods in the Club's history and be the manager that will lead this team into our new world-class stadium.

"This is just one of the factors that makes this one of the most exciting jobs in world football and we are already making plans to ensure we continue to build on the great work that everyone has contributed to over the past four years.

He's hardly slumming it here is he? May as well see this through for a couple more seasons at least. He's even getting paid more than Wenger finished up on down the road!

Maybe the challenge is harder (if domestic cup is the only target), but the payoff certainly wouldn't be, if Poch's past quotes are anything to go by.

I have a couple of gooner friends, one who’s sensible and another who isn’t. The latter text me today...

Him: Oooooohh Poch now favourite. Scenes!

Me: Doubt he’ll go, he just signed a new contract last week when he knew Zidane could get sacked if they lost the final

Him: He’s outgrown you lot. He’s too good a manager for a club like Spurs. You lot were a stepping stone for him and were always gonna struggle to hang on to him.

Me: We’ll see.

An hour later or so, I sent him the quotes confirming he’s staying. His reply:

‘Not bothered. He still won’t win you anything. Is he all that anyway? Just shows no ambition when Madrid want him and he doesn’t go. This time next year you’ll be back in our shadow’.

Gooners, ladies and gents. I replied saying he’s become ClichéMan, the world’s dumbest superhero.

He wasn't as sure as others, but seemed to imply that if we gave him enough money, he would stay.

Who: JJetset
When: 20th May
Where: Twitter

Q: you seem to be inferring that DL will break the wage structure for GB but the more important question is does GB want to stay?

JJetset: Yes! but beware the off season as sharks start circling... DL is very very tight with his handlers so big surprise if he leaves

Big decision time now for JL & DL .......

Q: Bales contract ? or just in general the coffers for the manager

JJetset: Everything related to transfers

Who: JJ
Where: Twitter
When: May 19

On wage structure/Bale:
@Agraled:@jetsetyid so if we break it he stays Jj?
"it" being wage structure, "he" being gareth bale, of course.

@jetsetyid: @Agraled If we don't he goes. Don't worry DL will break it.

Did he at any pont say he definitely wouldn't be sold?

Not as I can see. He just had those two updates I posted, until July when he sais he was 'worried' due to wage demands. So him coming out and saying Poch isn't leaving is a good sign :)

You're comparing a star football player to a manager ...

Yeah this is why Spurs fans get routinely laughed at.
