We don't overspend like our competitors, so we need to be shrewder in the market. That's been our MO. Some work out big time, some are OK, and some don't work. This strategy has served us well, but the market has changed. Even average players are crazy expensive now.

We've assembled a fantastic first 15, but it will cost a fortune to replace any of them to the same level. Which we don't do. So it would only take a string of purchases that didn't work out to leave us with a weakened squad. You can see this happening already with Sissoko, Janssen, GKN.

Now, hopefully none of our key players will want to leave, but it won't stay that way forever

See I could spin it that Levy isn't buying the dross we used to and is now just looking at proper players that will improve us. Let's see where we are in a weeks time.

IF and only IF we fail to sign anyone half decent in this window, then I will agree that Levy has let Poch down and that he should take the criticism for it.

But FFS. There is still a week to go. Levy has a proven track record of getting key signings done in this period. People hold up the Van Der Vaart signing us some shining light whilst forgetting that we got Son just before deadline day without anyone having a clue that we were in for him, that we got Lloris on deadline day after doing what we've been doing with Grealish all summer, that we got Eriksen, Dembele, Lamela, Moura and many others far closer to the close of the window than we are now.

If he fails then he fails, and I'd be as angry as the rest of them. But I will be amazed if we don't bring anyone in, regardless of what Poch says. You also forget, we already have a fucking good squad, with plenty of young, hungry players who are getting older and better with experience. I'd much rather wait for the right player to become available, which depends on a lot of moving parts, than sign someone who won't improve us at any overpriced rate because a few annoying twats on the internet are whinging too much.

I wish I could just fast forward a week and see where we end up. It's doing my fucking head in.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

'A few twats on the internet' - why be so kind, the plaster fell off their collective ceiling a week after the window opened.

I am not talking about this season - but if Poch leaves, Eriksen leaves, Kane leaves, etc....its not hard to picture us moving back to that 6-8 range. And, all three have said they want to stay, as long as the club match their ambitions. Thus, this window is the opportunity to match their ambitions.

As for this season specifically, I think Chelsea and Arsenal will improve enough to compete for top-4, particularly with no CL to distract. I think we will have to improve on last season to stay in the top-4 - which is not to say we have to buy - but its asking a lot of the current squad to improve without strengthening.

If we are 6th at the end of the season, and Poch and players have lost faith in the club's ambitions - its not hard to see us slipping backward.

If Poch, Kane and Eriksen leave on the back of signing new 5 year contracts we’re looking at £400M+ compensation. With our stadium and increased revenue, and those funds, we’ll still smash the shit out of any pretenders.

And who would any new players have left to entice them here? Hugo? Tripps? Winks?

Apart from last year our transfer budget has been roughly £0 for the last 10 years.

Our stadium hasn't come in way over budget we changed the design.

I thought I was agreeing with you and if you think the extra £200m or so from the original costings of the stadium are from re designing then fine but I respectively disagree with you - Poch I suspect will have to live with the consequences of our long term investments into the stadium which have been going on for many years hence long term zero net spend

Which team is more likely to win the league or champions league? Which team has the higher profile? Im afraid it's not us.

If we’re taking 2018/19 season then we’d need to see where we are at the end of the transfer window to discuss the league but neither is looking too good compared to City at the moment and I wouldn’t fancy their chance any more than ours.

As for the Champions League, you need to be in it to win it, ;-)

We changed the whole design of the stadium (nfl/capacity increase of 6k) and southern development building a lot more housing etc... it bumped the total cost massively.

Not trying to argue trying to inform.

Fuck me.....anyone would think most people on here are pochs best mate and know whats going on! Are you all so foolish to believe the press? Poch signed a very good £8.5m contract he needs to do his job! He has been and if levy doesnt spend £150m he still needs to do his job! He has been brilliant but lets not lose sigtnof the fact we have a fantastic squad

I don't think it takes being his mate to realise that if nobody came in he will be a bit displeased.

But i think we will bring in someone.

Of course he would but hes paid to do a job, a fantastic one he has done but all hear is he is not being backed but we dont know that! He has the best striker in Europe secured on a £200k a week contract...other players as well signed new contracts.

Genuine question, do you think that we don't need any additions to the squad? I feel that we have a great starting eleven but struggle when key players are missing as evidenced by our FA cup games, our game v Juve and games towards the end of the season.

Not sure where everyone is getting their zero spend on players from but according to transfermarket.com since 07/08 season Spurs have spent 832.65 million euros on buying players and received 679.53 million euros on selling players .
