Rumours say that the reason Tottenham haven't signed anyone is because Mauricio has injured his shoulder. He can't take "wrap arm around the new signing" pictures, therefore we preserve the war chest for January!

You've got to give Poch credit for towing the party line. I don't believe for one second he honestly thinks the squad didn't need a few additions this summer. Everyone knows where the weaknesses are. Despite that he behaves like a true professional, doesn't place any blame at the club and tries to put a positive spin on it. We are damn lucky to have him. I have absolute faith that he will do his best with the current crop this year but at some point the club has got to put their balls on the line and sign the calibre of player that will take the squad to the next level. We're so nearly there. One or two quality players would elevate us and add that little extra depth. Its not much. We can write this window off as a one off freak show due to the moving of TDD. But it can't happen again if we want to keep Poch.

Sounds like nothing happening then:

Tottenham are the only Premier League club not to have signed anyone but it's no biggie for Mauricio Pochettino.

"I am happy to keep all the squad together, there were many rumours during the summer about players out," the Spurs boss said.

"The club made a massive effort to try and extend contracts of Harry Kane, just one example. The club is trying to finish the stadium as soon as possible.

"It is difficult to understand for people in football that Tottenham didn’t sign or didn’t sell players but sometimes in football, you need to behave different.

"We are happy with our squad and we cannot improve our squad. It is better to keep our squad all together, we believe a lot in our players."

More from Mauricio Pochettino, who has refused to be drawn on Tottenham’s reported pursuit of Jack Grealish...

"I don’t like to talk about the players who are with other teams,” the Spurs boss said.

"There are many rumours during the transfer window. There is no point talking about players at another club.

"I am happy with the squad, happy with the players. We work to improve the squad, but when it is not possible, it is not possible and we move on.

"I believe in the way that we work and I have no doubt we will be competitive, with or without signings."

Its hard to imagine Poch not saying the "right" thing. Give that, I'll take it with a pinch of salt. Poch knows we've screwed around and got burnt. He knows, he's just got too much class to say so. he was explicit at the end of last season about us needing to compete for trophies and win stuff now and that to do so we needed to be brave in the transfer market. Sign big and sign early. That we've done neither, in fact worse we've done the square root of sod all, I think that just speaks volumes to the differing ambitions of Levy & Poch. Levy's focus has been on increasing the bricks and mortar asset value of the club whilst Poch wants to compete on the pitch. If we flounder this season then there's no one to blame but the chairman.

I suspect in his head he's already gone.

The alternative is that he truly is accepting of the debacle and then I'm questioning whether he is the man to take us forward, anyway.

Levy is very lucky to have this guy as the manager of our club...I doubt many would react like this over a complete fail of a window.

Poch is class personified, although he is clearly fed up

Hypothetical:

Poch and the players use the lack of help from Levy as extra motivation for this season, they rampage through the league and win the title...BUT Poch and all of the important players hand in transfer requests and walk at season's end.

Worth it?

One thing that could be very dangerous is if Pochettino loses interest and belief in the project...

MP is well aware of the financial constraints we operate within. I’m sure he would have liked to have signed a top player and obviously signing no one is not ideal, but to suggest that he’ll be looking to jump ship at the first opportunity is just ridiculous. If he was that unhappy there’s nothing stopping him from walking right now.

Then Levy would say he was right not to buy; and if Poch could do it once, why not again? So in order not to rock a good boat, no signing again next summer.:)

I look forward to everyone who took Poch at his word when he said what he said about being brave at the end of the last season, now turning around and saying that he's lying and reading off a script when he says he's happy with the squad.

This take is very pessimistic but here goes. We are screwed either way this season because of this window.

Scenario #1) Poch manages to get another top four finish even with no transfers, World Cup fatigue, injuries, etc. What does Levy think in his head? "Well, Poch obviously doesn't need any incomings because he still managed top four with my backing." Then Levy thinks it is OK to stay out of making big moves in market. Poch's frustration can only build so much before he just says "I'm out" and leaves.

Scenario #2) Things fall apart. Injuries ravage club, no depth because no signings, and Spurs finish 6th or 7th. No CL, maybe no EL either. Poch says "screw this, I'm gone" and leaves for a club that will back him.

If Levy can't back Poch in a situation like this (new stadium, three consecutive top three finishes, young strong team that looks on brink of doing something very special), when exactly will he? That for me is what is especially frustrating right now. This was the perfect opportunity to boost the team and absolutely nothing was done.

Maybe he isn’t pushing for signings as doesn’t want the added pressure
Spend nothing finish top 6 you have an excuse , I don’t get the impression he is banging on levy’s door

I’m sorry for this man. You deserve better and should’ve left for Real. Yes you would’ve probably been sacked after 3 months of struggling to turn this team
Around instantaneously, but you would’ve gotten backed to do what you need.

The worst feeling is one knowing that he’s gonna leave, and that’s because we did nothing to defend him. Regardless of what’s told, this officially became a broken record this window. Nothing can change if your boss has final say. That’s why people leave companies: better opportunities.

Im the loser in denial that is saying the sooner Poch leaves, the sooner I won’t have to anticipate him leaving. Best sports manager I’ve had manage any of my teams - period. He’s classy and he knows his stuff.

This transfer window sure as hell takes a lot of pressure off Poch. A mediocre season will see fans calling for the board rather than an awesome manager who hasn't been backed.

Reading his words, I wonder he has a SC account

I'm not entirely sure its Mauricio Pochettino's fault. I'm sure if he had been allowed he would have spent big this summer. Unfortunately it looks like the blame will laid at Daniel Levy. To say I'm disappointed at the complete lack transfer activity is an understatement but I will get behind the Football Club as ever. COYS ?❤

Anyone seen this?

Just makes me love him even more.

A proper rant from Poch about people making too much of a drama out of football decisions
I think it’s never they [Alderweireld, Rose, Dembele] were away from our thoughts. They are Tottenham players and always they were in my plans. Different situations, sure the players have different targets in their careers but not only them but the rest of the players. Look, for me it’s always the same, for me they are part of the team. Like always, for me it’s about to take the right decision. Unfortunately I can only pick 11 every single game. I am a person who always tries to be fair with everyone. But sometimes you cannot be fair when you can only pick 11, you cannot pick 12 or 13 or 14 in a squad with 25 players. Sure you cannot be fair with everyone. Look I am so clear. I was so clear with everyone. I need their commitment. 25 players will full commitment but not only one week, two weeks, one month and if I no play then I give up and start to say ‘The gaffer is a bad guy’. No it’s not a drama.
I think football we make it all a little bit drama and football is not a drama. Drama is another thing. Health is drama, war is drama. I don’t want to be a demagogue. But drama is many things in life but football is joy, to enjoy. It provides you with a lot in life to enjoy. I am such a privileged person thanks to that passion that is football. I can be here, I can talk English, I can learn English, I can travel around the world. I give to my people, to my family, my parents, my brothers and friends, try to help and give a very good life.
That is why sometimes I am so upset if one person can’t play a game it looks like it’s a massive drama. It’s not a drama. There are many things that don’t help the situations that happen. We need to try to be responsible, to be professional, but knowing that football is not a drama, it is a joy. Of course people that invest a lot of money in football it is a drama to lose money. But nobody put a gun to their head and said invest in football. Football is about to win or lose. The problem is when there is not a good balance between winning and losing and it’s more about business and money. In that money yes you start to feel that football is a drama.
I want to be away from that drama and I need feel that emotion and translate to my players that football is emotions. It’s the context of emotions. Yes it’s a business, it’s about money, but when you are on the pitch you need to feel you love the game. If you don’t love the game and your priority is business that it’s difficult to enjoy your game and you cannot sure enjoy with your team-mates, your family or your fans. This is why it’s so important to make it clear that football is not a drama. We make a lot of drama and in the real life are a lot of dramas. Football decisions are not things that we need to put in a situation that looks like it is something we cannot deal with.
