It may be my pessimistic mind taking over but I am worried about Poch going. I do think he could get his head turned. That said, would he really leave us the summer before we have a full season in the new stadium?! I’m definitely worried about him leaving. What will be will be but it will be a huge shame if he did leave us, a big kick in the nuts to the club if he feels he’d be better served moving to United!

I've tried hard to convince myself that he wouldn't be interested but think I'm just kidding myself

We have a lot going for us and more then we have ever had in decades but United are a sleeping giant and still the biggest club in the world

He would join then at their absolute lowest point since Fergie took over. He will get more money and maybe even get similar to pep if United were that desperate

But if he did go he would 100% feel regret and have loads of what if moments.

It's a very tough choice for him. He would definitely want to have a private chat with Woodward

Like I said, no matter what he says it will be twisted to fit the Poch is interested in Utd agenda. To think I had to study my ass off to get a sports writing qualification, when all you have to do is make up stuff, put 1 + 10 together to get 2. Nonsense. Pointless reading into the press and the countless articles that will come of it. Find me Poch's full unedited interviews, and they'll be ripped to shreds I'm sure.

Personally, I don't think Poch would leave mid season and we already know Utd are looking for a temporary man to take charge until the summer. Anything can happen between now and then, like the caretaker boss doing a wonderful job, the Utd players get behind him with the fans and he gets the job permanently. I don't even think he'll go. I'd be surprised if he did, after all the years he's put into this project. He is so CLOSE to the end, seeing us into the new ground, so close with this squad to trophies. Don't think he'd go until he's got a trophy or two anyway.

Really utterly pointless to wet bed as of now, especially when we have a NLD in 24 hours, a new stadium on the horizon, UCL knockout games to look forward, 3rd in the league not too far behind Liverpool and City.

Poch would definitely leave for United. Of course he would. The only thing that would stop him is if he didn't believe in the project. If Woodward is going to interfere then he might not want to go. He is a 'project' type manager.

I take it you know Poch?

If you were cynical you might think that is why Man Utd have done it, even if they intended to hire Zidane or whoever they now can destabilise Spurs for 6 Months in a way they could have never done with a manager in post.

Don't let the truth get in the way of a conspiracy theory I say buddy ?

I just can't see how what's going on at United won't be factored into to Poch's thinking. It's not a well run club at the moment, if Jose couldn't get them to buy players he wanted why would it be any different with Poch. Jose, LVG and Moyes all went their with great reputations and came out with shit ones. And it's only Moyes who seemed to be given the backing in the transfer market... The rumour is the commercial guys are in charge of transfers over there, not the manager. It's very clear Jose wasn't picking those signings. He just got dumped with them and still had all the expectation put on him to deliver.

They gave Jose a big new contract after he brought in some silver ware. And then didn't back him. Didn't give him control. Poch will know this, it's a shit show over there.

Poch is a very unique manager. Has much more in common with Ferguson than the likes of Guardiola and Maureen. He believes it's important to build from the foundation out. However, clubs like Utd, PSG, Barca and Real expect immediate success. There's no grace period. No time to build something that'll last. So, the only way I see him going to Utd, would be with a guarantee that he would be given a three year period to rebuild from scratch. He's have the leeway of the board, to accept over the first two years they may not win anything, but by the time he's in their third season, the team would begin to flourish.

I don't think he's interested in being told that he has a two month bedding-in period and that he'll get shit-canned if he doesn't deliver lickety-split. Of course, he'll be promised 200M to 300M to spend like a gangta, but I get the feeling that wouldn't be satisfying.

So, if he does go over there, my guess is that they'd promise him the one thing that matters most to his philosophy... time.

I also wouldn't be surprised if he uses this opportunity as leverage with Levy and the board. Not so much to pay him more, but to force their hands to be more active and robust in the transfer market. IE: 'show me your ambitious and will back me, or I leave'.

What Poch actually says:

Thanks for this. I think as much as anything, the way he speaks makes me believe that he has no intention of entertaining rumours, because that's what they are. Perhaps in the summer, things will be different - but for now there's 'nothing to address'.

It was also apparent that the club representative, presumably a media person, was acutely aware of the Man Utd links when he cut off the reporter and voiced his disappointment in her. There will no doubt be conversations between Mauricio Pochettino and the club on the Man Utd job but only if/when there's an approach or something substantial to talk about.

I think that Levy must give Poch a war chest so we can strenghten the team. If he don't, I think there's a risk that Poch will leave us for Man U. Poch knows aswell as us that we need to strenghten the first eleven to take the next step.

Have you forgotten about the 27 year project that ended there recently?
They want another Ferguson, who they can trust and invest in. The last 3 have been terrible appointments.
Pochettino, maybe more than anyone else in the business right night is the ideal candidate.

Their last appointments were not 27 year project people so maybe that is not what they want at all

Hope this is the case but whom and will their club sell in january? It will be difficult to get someone of the calibre we want.

NOT MEANT AS A TRANSFER DISCUSSION THAT SHOULD GO IN THE TRANSFER FORUM.

People keep saying things like "He'd be given a big budget to spend". Nothing at Man United points to the Jose having control of those transfers. I don't know why people keep assuming Jose was in any way in charge of any kind of budget. And therefore Poch won't be either... Look at those Jose team selections. Those weren't his players. Why do people think Poch would have a say in transfers over there if Jose(who's Poch's friend and I'm sure will tell him) wasn't?

Another new contract incoming?

What more can Levy do but pay him more money to get him to stay.

Levy could be willing to buy and loan back (something he hasn't been willing to do) like Chelsea are doing with Pulisic in order to get who Poch wants. Lyon isn't going to sell NDombele in January if they can't replace him, so why not buy him and loan him back? Still shows ambition to Poch and hopefully he sees that maybe DL will change a little.

That's true - but let's be honest, we have been quite the managerial shit show for the last 25 years or so with the odd moment of joy (Redknapp, Jol and briefly El Tel) but he left Southampton and took us on. We also had the DoF model intermittently - but he clearly felt we were a risk worth taking.

I think the big difference now is that we really aren't that far behind Man Utd now compared to when he took over. Our first XI and squad is exceptional, we are financially stable (if thrifty) and have all this awesome stuff about to happen - and it's his club. His Spurs, his Tottenham, shaped in his image!

So the 'push' factors he had at Southampton (Cortese, selling players etc) aren't the same this time - it's whether or not any of the 'pull' factors at Man Utd are still valued by him.

For those saying he wont go due to Woodward interfering and not getting the players the manager wants?

Do you not think Levy is exactly this? the amount of times levy delivers a different player to the one manager apparently wants? inc this summer not buying anyone.

if we lose Poch it really could be a disaster for us in our new stadium as no doubting players want to play for him.

just hope he commits and stays as losing him is unthinkable at present, there is no-one out there who I would want at present as a replacement :(

That is not a bad idea at all.

I'll believe DL will change when I see it. The man has let me down too many times to count, and although I'm not busting down his door with a pitchfork and torch, if he fails to back Poch and we lose him over it, I may have to buy a pitchfork.
