I guess the 'cauldron' can't stay there... Will be complicated to move and keep alight!

It's like they didn't want to offend any one of the great Olympians so bottled it! Chances are these kids will do nothing in the coming years. Ah well, all in all a good ceremony. Now to the real business

The cauldron is effing immense.
at least we were original I suppose...we were delivering on our message that this is to inspire the future generation, although I'm sure a degree of bottling picking one olympian over another came into it

I was hoping they would have Steve Backley throw a flaming javelin at the cauldron only to fall a little short and then have to bring Jan Zelezny in to do it.

Massive fuck up there by Sir Paul and his band. The only cock up of the night really, and by the person who's been in showbiz the longest!

what happened? I must have stopped watching at that point.

Either he started too early or the band started too late. He had to cut 2 lines out of the first verse to catch up. You could hear someone else singing different words (I assume backing singer or backing tape).

Hahahahahaaaa. Every fucking time. Every Worlds and Olympics it was the same story. Zelezny was a right character so the heart-break wasn't too bad.

At least old Steve got some European gold.

ahh yeah I did hear that; I thought it was an echo/delay issue.

I think you'll find it was a sound guy cock-up. in big gigs like that, theres a dealy of sound to people at the back, and it sounded like they were playing the delay through onto the stage, so it was a few seconds out. If so, Macca and his band covered it superbly.

Actually I did think he recovered well. I've listened to it again and it sounds remarkably like a backing tape of him singing. Is he doing a Chezza Cole?

I really had convinced myself that Becks was gonna boot a flaming ball into the pit to light it... Apart from that, and the athletes, it was pretty f-ing ace.

Nah, i'm pretty sure the sound delay was pumped back thru onto the stage, causing obvious havoc.

And how dare you compare Macca to Chezza!! ;)

Indeed. Chezza: would bang. Macca: would not bang.
