  • Harry Kane (Tottenham)
  • Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Manchester United)
  • N'Golo Kante (Chelsea)
  • Romelu Lukaku (Everton)
  • Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)
These are the nominees for player of the year, take any one of them out of the team they play for and it seriously damages them! Kane's absence damaged us early on in the season, but think we've coped far better than any of our competitors would with their star man missing for a prolonged period.
You've missed out Hazard.

I agree with others though, Sanchez shouldn't be there, and I actually believe Alli should be up for both.

I was looking at the league and fixtures last night, which is now becoming a regular daily occurance (probalby 5 times a day), looking at different games, trying to take my Spurs tinted glasses off and be realistic on our chances, of either catching Chelsea or securing 2nd spot, and then the FA Cup semi final weekend...

Whilst I was sat there going through the games with my son, it dawned on me, that I've never really experienced this before as a Spurs fan, yes we've had small success here and there, but not in the premier league era of the big four.

Remember the days of United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea constantly being the big four, during the 2000's... I look on in envy, hoping we'd get a lucky 6th spot European spot, of keeping check on the fair play league to see if we'd sneak a spot into Europe for being good guys, all that hope, but ultimately I'd look onto the top four and only dream of seeing Spurs in and amongst it.

Semi final weekend - four big teams, all against each other - it doesn't get much better than being in these games, plus our chase of Chelsea (which is very unlikely to actually happen), our potential points total.. the whole lot.

It's seriously amazing, and when you step back and think about all the years of mediocre football with the odd game of brilliance, or even the odd moment of brilliance, I then found myself thinking about my greatest spurs moment, without a doubt Gazza's free kick in the semi against arsenal..

When I had kids, I wanted them to be Spurs fans, and for their first few years at school, they got ribbed by pretty much every other kid supporting Chelsea. Thankfully, the team have helped me here, as we are doing great, have great, trendy, cool and fun players.

Not really sure what my point is, other than I've never been this excited about our success and seeing us where we are, is pretty unbelievable, considering my main dream in life as a kid, was to see Spurs lift the league trophy!

Spot on.

I remember the days of wondering whether a 2-2 draw with Norwich would be sufficient to get us into the Intertoto Cup.

Whether we do it or not this season (and I think the odds are that we won't) it is an amazing achievement for us to be in contention for two years in a row.

Now to take the next step.

I know what you mean I feel exactly the same.

It has also been a struggle getting my boy interested, especially a his Mum and her family are dye in the wool GAA people and only take a passing interest at "that foreign game played by nancy boys".

However the fact we are doing well and as you say have "cool players", plus the unique celebrations are starting to get through to him. He can name most of the team, which is a feat as he rarely watches a game, pulling out Mousa Dembeles name was a shock to me lol.

Whilst of course it would never happen, I do have the same dark thoughts as those who jokingly suggested that we use the cup semi to hobble as many of their players as possible for the run in.

It would be genuinely hilarious if half their team came off with knocks which kept them out of the run in. I don't agree with it but would at least be Karma for such an injury free season!

Fuck it though, let's just win our remaining games and win it on merit (y)

If we win the Double... In years to come will talk about
Wanyama in the same way we talk about Mackay?
Kane in the same way we talk about Smith?
Alderweireld in the same way we talk about Blanchflower?
Alli in the same way we talk about White?
etc.

It just seems strange to me that I'm watching a team that could emulate the achievements of players that my dad has spoken of in almost religious terms in the past.

I won't talk about Wanyama as about MacKay until he grabs hold of Costa's shirt and threatens to punch him.

You've misread his post - he's saying we "blew Everton away", which we did at the Lane, although we in fact did unnecessarily "give them a sniff" at the end.
I stand corrected. (y)

1. He's saying we blew Everton 'away' as in we battered them at times, not that we battered them in the 'Away' fixture. I stand corrected
2. The fixture you're thinking of happened last season. No its not. This season's opener was Everton away. Last season's opener was Manu away, Walkers own goal etc
3. We absolutely destroyed them in that 1st half and should have scored 3 or 4 Moot point as talking about a different game
4. Dele scored in the first half - in the 2nd half we started to struggle As above .

Maybe I should have been clearer, I meant Everton at home this year where I thought we were exceptional for 80 minutes. We did actually give them a sniff in that one, but not for long.
Yes you are correct, I misinterpreted

My son hears me talking about Hoddle, Gazza, Mabbut, Linekar and more recently King...

He is fortunate enough to have seen Bale, Modric and now Alli, Kane et al...

They'll be talking about them no end.

Well, Costa will be trying to get players sent off from minute one and so will fabregas if he plays so unless we have a decent ref them we could be in trouble. Costa v dier is the one for me. Costa seems to think he can rile Eric up for some reason but hasn't managed it yet.

looking at this it brings back such excitment of coming 4th. Let's not underestimate what this was, when it was. It was such a stepping stone.

I can't believe we are 2nd in a tougher world.

so many fantastic memories, so many fantastic unforgettable players. just to pick out one moment i'd say my favourite spurs win from my time was that 3-2 at Arsenal, I knew nothing about Tottenham at the time, I just knew that I wanted to be apart of the passion and pure adulation that I had just witnessed.

I've been doing this for 2 seasons now, and with only 7 games to go I was a lot more confident last season. The only real difference this season is the fact we are in the semis of the FA cup.

1 annoying thing is the way the fixtures for Man U in the Europa league have fallen. This round they have Chelsea sandwiched between the quarters, if they get through they play us after the semis. Also with the fixtures I know Chelsea have 2 games in 3 days as well, but they are now in a similar position as Leicester last season, they play 2 of their last 3 fixtures before us and have 6 days rest for the final fixture where we only get 3 days.

All I do know is this next 6 weeks might be the longest in my life, and will be cheering C Palace on in their next 2, if they can nick 4-6 points off of Leicester and Liverpool Allerdyce would most probably complete his mission, which might make that game an easier prospect (hope is a killer).

We all know we need Chelsea to slip and prey we continue our form, but while it's still mathematically possible this old git will keep dreaming

A month ago Chelsea were confident because they knew they could still lose points and Tottenham Hotspur needed to win every game which they knew wasn't going to happen, now they ain't so sure and they take that into tomorrow's game.
